Let's quit propping up minimum wage as though it is intended to support a family or even a single adult. It is not.

Labor is subject to the laws of supply and demand just like anything else. Idealistic unicorn dust socialist worker's paradise wet dreams don't have any bearing on economic reality.

The marketplace says "I am willing to pay you $7.25 to flip my burgers, take it or leave it". The worker then gets to decide if they are willing to work for that amount of money. And they are free to leave at any time if they don't like their compensation. No one in a fast food restaurant is an indentured servant.

Get rid of the "government assistance" and instead use that money to subsidize the vocational school education of those poor downtrodden minimum wage workers so that they can learn a marketable skill and EARN more money in the marketplace.

And while we are at it, take all the D and F students in the high schools and ship them off to trade school. They don't need to take trig, english lit, and U.S. History. Let's cut the horse crap here. If by the end of your sophomore year your GPA is a D or below, we put you on a bus and send you to vocational school so you can learn how to weld, wire a house, or tear engines apart.

You commie pukes advocating the reallocation of profits are dyed in the wool Marxists reading verbatim from Das Kapital. We see through your bolshevik line of horse crap. Unfortunately for you the evil bourgeoisie oppressors in this country are armed to the teeth and won't put up with your pissant wanna-be-revolutionary temper tantrums.

Surely you jest. You want to take an unmotivated borderline drop out and teach him to wire my house.

Why not? You think the migrant workers wiring houses right now are nobel laureates? You think they have more than a 10-grade education? You think they can complete the square and factor binomials?

Minimum wage at 21/hr, LOL!!!!!!!!!
You do not eat fast food - good for you! Even better for you that you know that fast food employees as kids or dead beats!

Here are some prices I've seen at the stores (keeping in mind AUD and USD values are virtually the same):
1.5L bottle of water, $4.50.
Big grab of Doritos, $5.50.
Pack of cigarettes, $31.50
6 pack of low-medium end beer, $25
Qantas airplane (small) toy set, $35
T-shirt, $40
Small plush toy animal, $30
Dinner for 2 with drinks, $125

Hope you enjoy fruits and nuts, because that's the only food that's (marginally) better than in Texas. And that pricing goes on and on, except hotels seem comparable.

Also hope you enjoy a 48% income tax rate.

So yes it has everything to do with "market logic." You guys romanticizing Europe and Australia really need to be careful for what you wish for, ESPECIALLY in a country as large and diverse as the US. And those of you who circulate this type of liberal meme crap on Facebook need to pull your heads out of your asses.
I think this point should be emphasized. I am so tired of all these comparissons about how other countries do things and how their policies are better. What makes America so great is that we do things differently. You want our policies to be more like Europe/Australia/Canada whatever then maybe you should just move your happy ass over there. My sister always thought life was so great and policies were so much better in basically every other country. So she moved across the pond after college, three countries later she is realizing America actually might be on to something. Well I'll be damn!

Also, the since of entitlement in this country is abosultely ridiculous. Imagine a country where you can be born, go to free public school for 13 years and not even try to learn anything, upon graduation you can make 30k by flipping a burger, putting it on a bun then adding some condiments or asking somebody what they want to eat, pushing buttons, then handing them a bag. My first Job was at DQ when I was 16, and whoever said that its hard work has absoluetely no idea what they are talking about and sounds like my sister who needs to go out and actually live in the real world instead of your little fantasy world where everything is fair and by doing nothing with your life you deserve that 30k for sitting at a window for 8 hours a day and handing people bags and pouring sodas. If youve been to a fast food joint lately a lot of them have two seperate windows. One for the real brains of the operation that can actually dispense the appropriate change and a second window where somebody literally just stands there and hands you your bag and (heres the the real chalenging part)they actually have to hand you a drink while managing not to spill it. That type of work clearly demands 30k.

Now that this discussion is over can we talk about what really matters. How good are those Whataburger burgers? AMIRIGHT?

It is not fair IMHO for mcdo to make billions of dollars in profits while these guys only get $7/hr. They may not have skills but it's hard work flipping a thousand burgers a day. I think salary should also be commensurate with how tiring/stressful your job is. Most of minimum wage jobs are physically tiring jobs. They deserve more pay specially if the corporation is making billions of dollars.

That is not how the market works.

Are you going to dictate what job is tiring and what the appropriate compensation is? Are the stooges in the democrat party and benevolent federal bureaucracies going to do it? Or are they going to find a bunch of dope-smoking Marxist sociology professors to figure it out by referencing a lookup table in Das Kapital?

That unmotivated borderline dropout is probably that way because he/she has no interest in what is going on at school. America needs to cop on and realise school isnt for everybody. Where I come from you can leave school at 15/16 with basically an aptitude cert and go to a vocational school. I know many guys that did and they are fantastic at their jobs and make better money than most people I know.

How is the "market" doing for y'all. Most of the manufacturing jobs are overseas coz corporations wanted more profit even though they are already making billions. The US gov't should protect the laborers from these greedy corporations.
