Not much of the taxpayer money to support the war on poverty makes it to people who actually are poor, per the study cited.

Government provides child-bearing subsidies, providing a rich fodder for failed schools, the prison-industrial complex, and armies of government workers needing something to do, because they canít do anything else.

Any reduction of the permanent underclass, those tens of millions for whom there is no work, and who couldnít do it if there were, is a threat to government union jobs.

he pulled himself out of poverty. but he is right, poverty is a result of laziness. if people dont want to put forth the effort required to get out of poverty, they wont get out of poverty. and in the end we will never get rid of poverty in any country. the poor will always be with us.

They aren't stopping fraud. It's gotten very easy to have a disability now and be given welfare handouts, we've got more people on welfare handouts than ever before. Most people on welfare handouts are able bodied and have IQs over 70, they could do some kind of work but don't want to work. It's absurd that the taxpayers are less than half of the population now.

No, when he was in poverty did that make him lazy? Did that make his parents lazy for being in poverty? The point is calling people who are in poverty lazy is a false generalization seeing most people in poverty are working hard trying to pull themselves out of it or at the very least try and keep up.

Police don't stop all crime and firefighters don't put out every fire so does that mean we should get rid of them? Not all fraud is caught, but if you think they don't catch fraud then you have no idea what you are talking about.

He should have said remaining in poverty is a by-product of laziness. It's also a product of the easy welfare life where people are paid to lay around and do nothing.

Even that is a false statement, poverty isn't a by-product of laziness. There are plenty of hard working people that are in poverty regardless with how hard they work.

Not all of them, therefore it was a poor generalization of the working poor.

How can they catch fraud? The government has added a ridiculous number of new disabilities so that just about any reason someone doesn't feel like working can get them disability handouts, food stamps, etc.

Like I said and you can go down to any welfare office yourself and see that very few of the recipients are missing arms and legs. Most could do some sort of work.
