Should we consider raising our pension age since social security is projected to go bankrupt.

This has been brought up before and the Left leaners didn't like the idea at all. Most likely because a R proposed it. But now that Britain is considering it they will probably be for it.

the united states doesn't have a state pension.

but no, i don't support raising the SS age, because it isn't necessary.

if you're worried about funding, then raise the income cap on the payroll tax, and institute more strict means-testing. problem solved.

Raise the age, then raise the cap or get rid of the cap altogether.

But only raise the age? Nope...no dice. Pain should be felt by everyone.

Boehner threw out the idea of raising SS to age 70 and it disappeared the next day. The Republican base is very dependent on Medicare and SS. A deal probably could have been done on SS and Medicare but it would have mean raising taxes or raising the cap on SS earnings. Thanks to the Grover Norquist pledge nothing can be done with raising taxes...now they are called fees.

Where've some of you been? The age for collecting full SS (the closest we have to a 'state pension') has been gradually rising.

It appears they are copying the US model not the other way around.

States and federal government employees should shift to 401K plans only.

Yes, being on a government pension doesn't make you any better than private sector employees. No pension fund should be bailed out, and no taxpayer should have to subsidize the extremely early retirements and big fat checks of former government employees.

Let those on government pensions have to work as long as those in the private sector and let their monthly checks be the same size as social security checks are to the private sector.
