This has been brought up before and the Left leaners didn't like the idea at all. Most likely because a R proposed it. But now that Britain is considering it they will probably be for it.
Boehner threw out the idea of raising SS to age 70 and it disappeared the next day. The Republican base is very dependent on Medicare and SS. A deal probably could have been done on SS and Medicare but it would have mean raising taxes or raising the cap on SS earnings. Thanks to the Grover Norquist pledge nothing can be done with raising taxes...now they are called fees.
Yes, being on a government pension doesn't make you any better than private sector employees. No pension fund should be bailed out, and no taxpayer should have to subsidize the extremely early retirements and big fat checks of former government employees.
Let those on government pensions have to work as long as those in the private sector and let their monthly checks be the same size as social security checks are to the private sector.
