When you really think about it --- NONE of our laws actually works. There are laws against murder but murders are still taking place. There are laws against rape and there are still rapes. There are laws against theft and people still steal.
It seems pretty wrong to me to intentionally poison and addict people just so you can get filthy rich. Destroy the lives of other people's children for easy money, it seems wrong to me.
Stop comparing violent crimes with a victim to drug use. Another ridiculous argument!
The US military had a huge program with drug abuse until the early 1980's. Then it got tough with drug testing and the problem was nearly eliminated in less than ten years. Sure, there are people that still abuse drugs in the military but no where near the abuse problems prior to the crack down.
I would like to see more of a soft attack on drug abusers. Anyone working in a local, state or federal job should be tested for illegal drugs at least 2 times a year. If they are first responders then 4 times a year. Any political leader should be tested at least 5 times a year. All tests should be random with no notice. You refuse, you are fired. Private industry should test as often as they want but at least 3 times a year. You refuse, you are fired.
Bump. Still waiting for replies from Finn and malamute!
To this: "The black market for cannabis is going to be crushed"?
That has not been the case in Holland or any other country which has decriminalized drugs, so why should it be thre case in US. They estimate the price for pot is going to sky high with taxes etc so your estimate about the price falling 75% is a pipe dream. The cartels will always be able to provide drugs cheaper than the government.
Obamacare requires our premiums to be high for things like this....
[SIZE=3]"Details actions to implement the Affordable Care Act, which – for the first time in history – ends discrimination against people with substance use disorders by requiring insurance companies to cover treatment for substance use disorders as they would for any other chronic disease;"
With no solution in sight, this will be a bottomless pit of taxpayer cash under the guise of health coverage premiums.
Know any illegal drug users? Look at them posing as your friends...they are traitors who enable downstream gun violence and deplete your bank account.

Drug testing solves nothing though. Besides, some of my co-workers that drink and smoke weed on the weekends are much better workers than one co-worker of mine in particular that doesn't drink or smoke weed but is literally addicted to coffee (claims she can't do anything and will not be bothered before she has several cups every morning yet her personality and work ethic still don't improve throughout the day).
1.) It is very costly to drug test
2.) There are many ways to beat a drug test
3.) Drug testing doesn't account for discrepancies in how long something stays in your system.
I.E. A Crackhead or Heroin addict can binge all weekend and pass a drug test by Tuesday with flying colors yet smoking a marijuana joint will have you failing drug tests for up to 30 days.
Drug tests should be called what they are-Marijuana Tests.

Decriminalized is not legalized. Decriminalization still keeps the black market in place. Who is "they" in reference to pot prices going even higher? You don't know what you're talking about. Prohibition increases prices.
