No different than refusing to serve certain races of people, a practice which was outlawed by the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

This is so ignorant!

How could people be so uninformed about state and national laws? Don't they know anything about PUBLIC ACCOMMODATION LAW?????? They just don't get it!

"A private owner has every right to do business with whomever he/she wants ..."

Baloney.

If you're providing a public service you cannot disregard state law.

If someone in a private enterprise offering goods or services to the public can NOT discriminate ... if they could ...

  • a restaurant owner can refuse to serve an African-American family that entered the establishment?
  • a hotel can refuse to rent a room to a Jewish couple?
  • a cocktail lounge can refuse to serve some guests who are over 50?
  • a Hindu doctor can refuse to see any Christians as patients?
  • the manager of a sporting goods store can refuse to sell a gay baseball team catcher's mitts?
Isn't anyone aware that anti-discrimination laws have been challenged - just like this most recent example - over the past 60 years and they have been upheld as constitution by state courts, federal courts, the US Supreme Court????

As I said before, there are perfectly legal ways to cater to only certain clientele, but the owners of this bakery didn't want to respect state law be bothered with incorporating their business as something other than a public accommodation.

A private business stops being private when they are licensed to serve the public.

No one should be forced by law into participating in what they believe to be sin. Period.
This is so full of BS it stinks.

The bakery owner was only asked to bake a cake.

Bake a cake ... something that he does as a service to the general public.

Is it a sin to bake a cake?

Where does it say it's a sin to bake a cake?

He was not asked to perform a same-sex wedding. He was not asked to have sex with anyone. He was not even asked to attend the wedding. He was only asked to BAKE A CAKE.

If the baker refused to bake a cake for a Buddhist wedding and refused to do so, he would also be guilty of discrimination. His personal religious beliefs about Buddhism is irrelevant. If the baker baked a wedding cake for Buddhist, does that mean he committed a sin? Did that act make him a participant in Buddhism?

I declare, if you guys brought up these childish arguments in a court of law you would be laughed right out of the court!

You know they would certainly try though. With a totally straight face and a voice filled with absolute conviction and no traces of facetiousness or irony.

As, for example, what'shisface saying someone should crap in Sarah Palin's mouth? Are these people not just as bad?

But you don't understand ...

Dog weddings are acceptable in Christianity. Just so long as it's not between two male dogs or two b*tches.

On the other hand, cat weddings are not recognized. Everyone knows cats are promiscuous, untrustworthy, and prone to depression.

....and they have the tendency of tomcatting around. That's not acceptable in the Good Book.

The bigger concern is, why would a gay couple want to give their business to a homophobic bakery in the first place when there are so many other bakeries looking for their business. Compare it do a black couple getting married; I suspect not only would a black couple not give their business to a bakery deemed to be racist, but they are likely to look specifically for a bakery run by black folks with the intention of supporting other black business. The same holds true for gays; there are many gay bakers out there, particularly in urban areas. For the record, I would suspect a solid 99% of gays are not going to give there business to a homophobic business in the first place, and add support for their profits.

Also, not sure why the OP would take the time on on such an old article, which I suspect was posted previously? The truth is, when you're intentionally trying to bait other homophobes, there really isn't much else out there, because overall, gays don't really cause anyone any problems.

Why would they want to purchase a product from someone who disapproves of their lifestyle? Doesn't seem like an operation they would like to support. Sounds as if they are just sticking it to the business owner...
