Race is a social construct. It is also a reality many deal with every day.

I will go with the dictionary definition over the agenda driven definition of those on this forum.

LOL!!!!

I'm the one with an agenda? Oh I don't think so dear. Not at all. Too funny.

Funny that some here who say there are no races are among those who call critics of Obama "racist". The topic isn't whether or not there are races of humans. Historically, people have separated groups as a particular race and some within these groups have believed that those not of their race were less than human because they were of an inferior or less evolved race. Margret Sanger, who led to what is now Planned Parenthood, was a believer in Evolution and the eugenics movement. One of the reasons she promoted abortion was to limit the birth of black babies because she felt they were inferior or less evolved. WW2 Japan committed horrible acts upon those who were not Japanese because they considered them less than human. Some Japanese soldiers used prisoners as livestock to eat. Germany was infamous for it's racial purity and eliminating the undesirables.

So what is wrong with the dictionary definition?

race

noun 1. a group of persons related by common descent or heredity.

2. a population so related.

3. Anthropology . a. any of the traditional divisions of humankind, the commonest being the caucasian, Mongoloid, and Negro, characterized by supposedly distinctive and universal physical characteristics: no longer in technical use.

b. an arbitrary classification of modern humans, sometimes, especially formerly, based on any or a combination of various physical characteristics, as skin color, facial form, or eye shape, and now frequently based on such genetic markers as blood groups.

c. a human population partially isolated reproductively from other populations, whose members share a greater degree of physical and genetic similarity with one another than with other humans.

4. a group of tribes or peoples forming an ethnic stock: the Slavic race.

5. any people united by common history, language, cultural traits, etc.: the Dutch race.

Biologically speaking, race does not exist. Socially speaking, thanks to centuries of divine stupidity, we have racial divisions.
Actually the "divine" did not do that --- your government did. Look how your government keeps race distinctions going with affirmative action, race based financial aid, questions on the census.

Like I said, racist classifications should be removed from all government forms and questionnaires.

Evolution is change over time, not necessarily better or worse...but adapted to their situation. There really isn't much difference between human beings, besides cosmetic differences (skin pigment, hair colors) and the propensity to some diseases (sickle cell, lactose intolerance). There simply hasn't been enough time for change in that manner.

If you want to say there is no support for racism in the Bible, you need to ignore the curse of Ham in the Old Testament as well as slavery. Reverend William Graham was a fervent supporter of the justification of the Bible supporting holding African Americans as slaves in the US, and often made grand lectures on the subject. This persists through today with Christian identity movements, and even Stormfront. You can't wave away the past but work to change the future.

Not that either really have racism at their core, but bigots will use either to support their bigotry by twisting each into pretzels.

Jesus taught compassion and love for his fellow man. Bigots and people who wished power cherry picked the parts that let them do so to enslave others. It is also twisting his words to demonize your fellows and assume hateful things about them because you do not like them. Which seems to be the majority of the content of your posting history.
Come on, how many people TODAY use the Bible to support racism? I'd say the numbers are so small they rival the numbers of The New Black Panthers. All those racist groups are ignorant, but the vast majority of religious people aren't like that. The Bible can be twisted to support anything, and unfortunately there will always be people to believe even the most unlikely scenarios.

I don't see why some feel you can't believe in evolution and God at the same time. Who said all those begats in Genesis weren't tribes that begat other tribes, taking thousands of years, and that God's seven days wasn't millions/billions of years? Those stories just seem more like parables to me.

I totally agree, have long complained about forms asking about racial designation, and, to "improve" her chances to get into the college(s) of her choice, have advised my most-recent-ancestry-Vietnamese daughter to use the classification "multicultural" from now on. (BTW, not sure where that term came from - state or fed (or county) but I like it!).

Let's see how this works out!

I'm all for getting rid of "race". Then we can dislike Obama for his socialist policies and big government and globalist agenda and no one would say it's just because he's half-white half-black. He's a human nothing else.

Back to the original subject. Evolution does imply the possibility that what are commonly called races could diverge into separate species. However, given the current "mating" practices, we appear to be heading toward a more homogenous species rather than a divergence. Even if such a divergence did occur (across millions of years) each species would diverge so to better adapt to their environment. So neither species would be inferior or superior, only different.

Yes but Beagles and GSDs are DIFFERENT! They have different temperaments, they learn different, they have different purposes, etc. All people are all humans, but to say that all people are the same is IGNORANT in the highest degree.
