Like urbanlife said, you must have never met an Iranian. I have known quite a few of them and like most people, they want a good education for their children. Our country ranks high educationally in regards to college/university so of course, those who are able to do so, would jump at the opportunity to send their kids here to college.
Contrary to what you may believe, our country is not at war with Iran and there is no reason to deny Iranian students admission to our universities if they so qualify and can pay the (steep) international tuition.
Why should citizens of a nation which we are on hostile terms with be permitted to study and take advantage of knowledge from the US, most likely to return and use that against us, whether in a technical manner or to gain economically from it?

Yeah, I doubt that though I am sure they were unimpressed with you as well, and there is no reason why they shouldn't be allowed to come here for college like any other country.
I don't think this causes me any heartburn. One of the many challenges of being a college student in America is that maintaining coursework while also surviving. If you can't survive, then you really can't afford to go to begin with. This would seem to be all the more applicable to foreign students.

That's the point. They're not like any other country in their relations with us. Well, maybe North Korea.
As for being less then impressed, I shall not impose myself on them in their country and ask no more of them.
I am for denying them any advantage gained by being educated here. It's not in the best interests of the US to do so.
We have probably trained many of their Nuclear scientist. Is that problem ?
