"Thank God, I don't know how exactly it feels," Scambos said. But he said scientists do routinely make naked 100 degree below zero dashes outside in the South Pole, so people can survive that temperature for about three minutes.
Most of the time researchers need to breathe through a snorkel that brings air into the coat through a sleeve and warms it up "so you don't inhale by accident" the cold air, Scambos said.
OK... the naked part is just disturbing.

I've read that scientists who over-winter at the South Pole have a "300-Degree Club" which involves sprinting from a 200-degree sauna into the -100 degree air outdoors.
Apparently spending 6 months a year in total darkness (and the other 6 in nonstop daylight) can have an effect on people's mental health.

So far man made global warming has only caused the Earths average temperature to increase by about 1 degree/degrees.
This 1 degree difference will not stop cold records from being broken. This cold record was broken by something like 3 storms coming together in a uncommon way (but without global warming this new record would have likely been about 1 degree colder.)
The problem with man made global warming is that this temperature increase will continue to grow. It is expected that in the next 100 years the Earths temperature will rise by 2-6 degrees.
You may think this is no big deal, but a 6 degrees temperature increase will alter/devastate our farming practices, melt arctic ice, cause animal and plant populations to die/move/change, ex.ex.ex.
Some republicans say "the Earths temperature often changed in the past." But when these temperature changes happened (huge numbers of plants and animals went extinct.)
