If this were a public school I would be outraged. But it is a private school and they are rightfully allowed to require that their teachers live in a way that does not go against their religious principles.

Which I am fine with, I am just curious if there have been people fired for other reasons that were against their religious principles, and why did he not get fired when he had a civil union, mostly gay married is okay with them but full gay married is not? Also is this their only religious principle they follow or are their other ones?
Calling out religion's bigotry is not considered bigotry, it is just stating a fact.
True. I certainly don't believe most religious people are bigoted, and bigotry is of course not exclusive to religious people.
But religious zeal does lead many people to being bigoted and intolerant.
And the only truly valid response to bigotry is to be bigoted against it.
The only truly valid response to intolerance is to be intolerant of it.

It is sad that an organization that complains about low marriage and high divorce rates would choose its hatred for gay people over its support of marriage.
He violated the terms of his contract and knew full well in advance what would happen.
I am actually curious what those terms in his contract that he violated, does it say you can be fired for getting gay married but not for getting a gay civil union? Are there other terms in the contract one could be fired for? It seems like no one knows these answers.

Quoted from the school’s headmaster:
“Unfortunately, this decision contradicts the terms of his teaching contract at our school, which requires all faculty and staff to follow the teachings of the Church as a condition of their employment. In discussion with Mr. Griffin, he acknowledged that he was aware of this provision, yet he said that he intended to go ahead with the ceremony. Regretfully, we informed Mr. Griffin that we have no choice but to terminate his contract effective immediately.”
For specifics and any other additional information or questions the school would really be your best source.
