I take it you're a big proponent of strong federal government control? That's what this ruling was about - it said local government don't have the right to determine such things for their communities - only the federal government does.

Probably that it's a conservative cheering on a national government over a state or provincial one, which tends to go against conservative philosophy. Interestingly, if their Parliament decides to pass the Marriage Equality Act, it will be effective nationwide immediately, unlike in the US, where the overturning of part of the Defense of Marriage Act created legal chaos between state and federal policy.

I personally believe both countries will get to nationwide marriage equality, hopefully sooner rather than later.

The whole situation is absurd. In many places around the world there is a back and forth, depending on which government is in charge at a given time.
Sooner or later people will have to discuss this till the end and make a permanent decision.

If other laws were so short-lived, for instance regarding taxes etc., no sane company would make investments in such a country anymore.
