ESPN has reportedly rejected a Christmas commercial from a St. Louis area Catholic hospital because the network found the mention of "Jesus" in the ad to be "problematic."
I'll bring up another problem that seems to always go unmentioned in this country. That of grown men spending so much time and brain space on trivial things like sports. If the amount of men that know so many useless statistics of sports players, took their time and used their smarts for trying to make this country a better place, we would be a better place.
It's a private company, they can display things on their channel that they think is appropriate. The government is not required to force them to run ads they don't desire to. It is always interesting that people try and redefine the first amendment to mean that private companies and individuals must give their beliefs a public platform.
People (not just men enjoy sports) need to relax, and do what they enjoy sometimes. If it's sports, so be it. It's their time and their money. Even if you do not like it....in America they have that freedom. Knowing ones limits in order to stave off burnout and stress is the adult thing thing to do.

I read through the article pretty fast but I didn't read anyone saying anything about the first amendment. ESPN can dismiss the beliefs of others and others can dismiss ESPN for doing that.
Newsflash. ESPN changed their minds and the ad will run as intended.
The initial decision to not run the ad was reportedly made by an employee, not a business decision of the company.
I have no idea why ESPN was chosen for the intended ad given their demographics. How likely are the patrons in a sport bar going to even notice, let alone respond? Much better to target Lifetime or similar network and wedge between the save the animal ads.

When good men do nothing, evil flourishes.
I won't even touch the first part of this post because I've seen this kind of debate enough times to know it's just going to go around in circles until someone gets tired of typing or has something else to do. In regard to the second part: Oh no! People have a life outside of political debates and like to partake in recreational activities like watching sports?! How dare they! Look, I'm working on a master's degree so I like to think that I am a reasonably intelligent person. Furthermore, I also care about politics and what happens in this country and around the world. I also watch sports and I am unashamed to do so. Why? Because if I didn't have a life outside of politics I would turn into someone like you and I can't let that happen. Have you really stopped to look at the posts on this board? People here are crazy and its quite clear that they are miserable because they get so worked up over little issues, like whether or not a commercial uses "Jesus" or not. As a life long Catholic, I could care less. It doesn't concern me and I highly doubt that God will send me to hell because I'm not up in arms about this issue. You think people who watch sports need to stop wasting time? I think you need to stop wasting time on such trivial issues. I stay up to date on political news, I watch sports, I play guitar and piano, I listen to all genres of music, I'm a movie buff, I play video games, I go out to bars, clubs and other social gatherings, I brew my own beer, I've studied art history, I'm a fan of stand-up comedy, and I study urban planning. Do you know what that makes me? A well rounded person.
