"I remember our history" said one voter. "I will never vote for a person from the Right":

LA Times

Hopefully, Americans will remember too...

Not really the same thing, Chile has a bit of a rough past with their past leaders, something we haven't really experienced in this country thankfully.

I am sure the people of Venezuela will remember as well and nobody wants to return the days of capitalism when toilet paper wasn't available.

They'll need it.

Hopefully, Americans will remember it was Democrats who forced the lending practices that created the housing bubble and crashed the economy, it was Democrats who claimed it was a youtube video that caused Benghazi, it was Democrats who lied about sending guns to Mexican drug cartels, it was Democrats who supported the Arab Spring that has resulted in a radical Muslim president who declared his edicts above judicial review and looked the other way while people who didn't share his religion were murdered and their churches burned, it was Democrats who barricaded the memorial for WW2 vets while they held a rally for illegal immigrants, it was Democrats who fled across state lines in Wisconsin to avoid a vote they didn't like, it was Democrats who said changing the filibuster rules would damage the nation when they weren't in power but then changed them when they were, it was Democrats who force in sequestration and then purposely made it as painful as they could and then blamed Republicans for it, it was Democrats who lied about Obamacare to get it passed, etc.

Yes, I hope Americans do remember our history. I hope they remember the lies and corruption of the party you support.

It will actually. There is an ongoing move in Central and South America towards a more liberal society politically. This movement will have a huge impact on American influence and power in the region. The days of American supported right wing despots are over. The USA being the USA will most likely fail at accommodating this political change and that will leave a vacuum for other world powers to move in and gain major influence.

It appears you don't remember.

The US murdered President Allende, because the US feared he would nationalize the nickel and tin mines.

Then the right-wing dictator --Pinochet--- put into power by the US, nationalized the nickel and tin mines....after torturing and murdering lots of Chileans.

Are you insinuating that a political party in the US nationalized certain national resources and then tortured and murdered Americans?

I sure hope not, because that would be really stupid.

And why has Chile had "a bit of a rough past with their leaders?"

It's due to the fact that the US murdered their leaders in cold blood and installed puppet-dictators.

Maybe if you experienced the evil you do, you might start acting like a benevolent republic.

That's a good analysis.

The Colombian government approached the US asking for help building a canal through the Colombian Province of Panama. Colombia had most of the money, and all of the labor, but needed engineering expertise and additional funding. Colombia wanted to share the profits from the canal 50-50 with the US.

Being the Great Christian Benevolent Nation-building Democracy that it is, the US sent mercenaries to the Province of Panama, murdered Colombian citizens in cold blood, murdered Colombian government officials in cold blood, and then declared civil war by claiming "independence." US troops landed the State of Panama was born.

Now the US had the canal all to themselves and could keep 100% of the profits, instead of sharing.

When South American States asked the US for help building a Trans-Andean Highway, the US said "No" fearing it would reduce US profits on the Canal.

Funny thing is, when China gained control of the Canal and was asked the same question, the Chinese not only agreed to help build the Trans-Andean Highway, but additionally agreed to help build a Trans-Andean Railroad, a Trans-Andean Pipeline, and even connect all of it to the Lula Project (Trans-Amazonian Highway/Pipeline).

The US murdered a Nicaraguan president who attempted to make US corporations pay local taxes.

His successor hand-picked by the US, was then over-thrown by the US, for asking the US for permission to tax US corporations.

The US over-threw President Arbenz of Honduras for building a port that would compete against the only port in Honduras owned by Chiquita, and also for building electrical power plants that would compete against Chiquita, who owned 100% of the power generating capacity and charged monopoly rates.

I led my troops through the Honduran jungles escorting "suits" who terrorized, threatened and intimidated Honduran villagers into voting for the US-backed puppet dictator.

Obama illegally over-threw the Honduran government in July 2009.

I could go on all day, but suffice to say that if Central and South America turn their backs on the US, then that is a privilege Americans worked very hard to earn....

...and it is well deserved...

Mircea

Most US Americans don't know or want to know what a terrible country they live in in terms of foreign politics...
The sooner the world wakes up and acts accordingly, the better...
