Hate has never swung back. Blacks are no longer slaves, women can vote, and now gay marriage is legal in many states.
Freedom is slowly making a comeback, just like the constitution wanted
Freedom is ok as long as only your views and opinions are not censored right? For those with opposing views, they should be censored, locked up, and pilloried.

If your position is that we shouldn't be allowed to respond to this at all, it would be you who wants to censor us.
Well about free speech, you are free to say what you like to an extent, you can't yell Fire! in a crowded theater, but you can speak your mind without being arrested for it. That's what the First Amendment is about, that the state will not come after you for speaking freely. There is no guarantee that others won't come after you in every way possible, and as we all well know, nowadays they most certainly will.
So I support the free speech rights of this hateful bearded muppet where the state is concerned, but he's on his own with the rest of the people and he brought it down upon himself.
These guys are a joke. A character for a tv show. They represent the south about like the jersey shore represents the north
Seriously. You have Louisiana Tech right around the corner and a lot of intellectually minded people.
It's just easier to perpetuate a stereotype and a lot less boring for the like minded boob tube viewing public.
All of these shows are so indicative of the cultural downturn and degradation we boomers profited from. It is a sad note on my generation. "Lassie", "Father Knows Best," "Donna Reed," may have been high cornball, but at least they promoted decent values. And songs from that era had beautiful lyrics and tunes, not like metal rock, hip hop, rap, and other violent, perverse, and mysogynist groups of this era.
We are training young people to become addicted to this type of voyeristic titilation into the perverse.
Well apparently a lot of people like watching these stereotypes. What did he expect would happen to him.
We are talking about a Hollywood show and very sensitive corporate sponsors.

In the GOP's dream world that's what they would want, but for the rest of us, we'll take freedom.
I look at it this way. I don't necessarily agree with his religious view, but I will defend his 1st Amendment right to speak his mind. I also support, but not necessarily agree that A&E has the right to suspend or terminate his show as well. Sometimes your free speech does have consequences. Unfortunately, corporations are not bounded by the 1st Amendment, and can be little dictators from time to time. It isn't right, but it is what it is. Another point, is that in this day and age, everyone loves drama, and I have to think that no matter your stance on gay marriage or how you feel about it, A&E's actions may have only increased his popularity. Look at all of the attention Chik Fillet got! Positive and negative publicity sells. A perfect example of this is as follows.... I don't know how many of you have seen Howard Stern's movie Private Parts. There was a part in the movie when the radio execs were debating what to do with him, and how to censor or tame him down. It was asked why do his fans continue to listen? Response: They wanted to see what he had to say next. The next question was asked to those who did not like him why do they continue to listen? Response: They wanted to see what he had to say next.

I don't believe he brought anything down on himself. He was a made man, and the family became wealthy before A&E came along. Prior interviews and speeches he has given indicate he really doesn't give a rip what people think of him or say about him.
Looking at the amount of support in terms of 'follows' or 'likes' that the support pages are getting in 48 hours compared to A&E and GLAADs respective pages/accounts shows there is a huge number of people out there on Robertson's side. I firmly believe that the Roberston's don't need A&E but that it's the otherway around.
I hope the rest of the family does what it seems they indicated they will do [yesterday] and tells A&E to take a hike. I would imagine there are a number of smaller networks more in-line with Phil's values that would be chomping at the bit to be able to pick up the family and run a new show with thm.
On the other side of the issue it's not about his free speech or anyone else's free speech to respond to what he said. The bill of rights lists what the Government can not limit. It has nothing to do with what A&E can do to their contracted employees.
What it does have to do with is A&E punishing/firing someone based on their religious views and opinions. That could possibly lead A&E down a rocky path.
Even if one's interpretation of the Bible goes down the path that homosexuality is a sin, there's nothing in any religion I'm aware of that would support or substantiate his words regarding blacks, which, IMO, are being sorely underreported and discussed while the gay remarks are the headline and story being proffered by both sides of the political spectrum.
Even today, a celebrity can probably get away with saying derogatory things about gays in the context of protected religious speech. In some cases that may even make the person more popular among certain demographics. That doesn't apply to racist comments. You'll notice that none of the politicos taking the airways are addressing anything but the gay part of the comments. Nobody can or will defend the racist parts of his diatribe, not Gingrich, Palin, Jindal... nobody.
- He can say whatever the hell he wants.
- A&E can employ or suspend whomever the hell they want, though I figure their action will hurt a profitable show for them.
- The GQ is stupid (or diabolical?) for asking a loaded question like that... doesn't take a genius to figure out the road the response is going to go down, and the potential PR fallout. Probably works out for GQ's sales.
- His agent is stupid for not screening and eliminating that question from the interview.
- The media is stupid for taking this to the lengths they are, and seemingly ignoring the clause Phil stated at the end.
- People in general are stupid for taking this to the lengths the are, and largely ignoring the clause Phil stated at the end.
