She is not a 'diplomat' or 'ambassador', but a 'deputy consul general'. I believe that their duties are to help citizens of their home country (here, India) who are in the United States. I do not believe (though I could be wrong) that they hold 'diplomatic immunity'.

She is not a US citizen at all, she is an Indian citizen representing her country in the US.

Are diplomats a novel concept?

Actually she is considered a "diplomat" of India. A low level one but a diplomat no less and has consular immunity.
And the LE said "cavity search" was a standard procedure….

Still..what if stuff like this starts happening to our diplomats in other countries..accused, arrested and stripped searched before being released ?

Prosecutor says strip search of India diplomat 'standard'

That American lawyer meant to say that Indian diplomat is above US citizens (superior than US citizens)

Can US citizens be handcuffed in public, arrested, put in jail and strip searched ??

Will Police officers touch WWE wrestlers Kane and Undertaker who are 7 feet tall and 130 Kg ??

Kane and Undertaker are US citizens (but less known to the world)
