That's not a bad rendition. I have to assume the right-wing-free-republic-osphere is venting because 1) the singers are black, 2) it sounded too black, 3) the gay marriage parade thing, and/or 4) it happened in California.
The only places I can find their rendition being panned is by 1) the usual suspects here and 2) on freerepublic.com

or it was virtually unrecognizable. The race card???
It was poorly done and the only thing that it had in common with our Anthem were the words and some of those were twisted up.
I felt the same way when Rose ann pulled her stunt, and when I heard a country singer yodel the anthem. Whitney Houston did one of the best performances ever. oops but she was black!!!!
By the way the posts on youtube are less than flattering.
I could post this under sports or here, but my blood pressure would be just as high regardless: I just listened to the singing of our National Anthem and I have furious!!! Why do supposed entertainers think is necessary or even acceptable to totally re-create how it is sung? What happened to the days when our patriotic music was just that and sung accordingly?
The tune was stolen from an English drinking song that is difficult for all but a few people to sing. That os why you have stylings, to get the song reduced to something that the vocalist can handle.
I personally would replace it with something easier to sing, My suggestions would be "America The Beautiful" or "This Land Is Your Land".
Way back I loved Jimi Hendricks' version of the anthem. If you have never heard it you should look it up!
I saw Jimi do it at the Second Atlanta Pop Festival in Byron, GA on July 4th, 1970. That was two months before he died. It was spectacular with a huge fireworks display in the background, and close to the stroke of midnight.
This Land Is Your Land
Words and Music by Woody Guthrie
This land is your land This land is my land
From California to the New York island;
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
This land was made for you and Me.
As I was walking that ribbon of highway,
I saw above me that endless skyway:
I saw below me that golden valley:
This land was made for you and me.
I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding:
This land was made for you and me.
When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.
As I went walking I saw a sign there
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me. In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me? Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.
