Well, I don't have the balance for stiletto's and if it eats or poops I don't want it at this time so I am just taking notes on all the hermaphrodites and confused people for the moment..

It's not a "chip on my shoulder"; it's a genuine concern that we, and our kids, are being oversensitized, androgynized, and medicated to a point that loses touch with how we got here; you don't have to agree with it, but don't censor it within the near-monopoly in public education in the name of Political Correctness.

"I disagree with what you say, but will defend your right to say it." (Voltaire) -- doesn't seem too popular among the high-and-mighty right now.

It's nonsensical to deliver aid to one person when the same amount of effort can aid hundreds or even thousands. Rural folks know this, and it's one of the reasons they keep more resources on hand.

Regardless, both city dwellers and rural folks should be aware of their most likely natural disasters and prepare accordingly. In my case, it's power disruption resulting from winter storms, and flooding.
Power interruptions are a fact of life in Alaska. Which is why most rural Alaskans have generators, but very few urban Alaskans do.

Harsh winters are the least of our worries in Alaska. We build accordingly and as a result we have few problems. Earthquakes and active volcanoes are high on the list of south central Alaskan concerns. Although typhoons rank up there, but they are fairly rare. Or if you live in the interior of Alaska, forest fires are the biggest hazard. Alaska is so large, we have several natural disasters to be concerned about, depending on where one lives.

I always put on my oil of olay regenerist because I'm concerned about getting wrinkles. Part of my daily routine. I go to the gym five hours a week and I'm always watching what I eat. I consider all these things manly as almost every guy I know does similar things. That includes both straight and gay guys.

City critters have become so dependent upon the city's infrastructure and social programs, that if they should fail for any reason millions of lives will be in jeopardy. Which is why whenever there is a natural disaster the cities are always the first to receive aid.
The "survivalist" mentality has been noticed by the mainstream media since the late Seventies, and its companion, the "goldbug" financial strategy, for a decade or two before that; what the strongest advocates, and their most-simplistic following tend to overlook is that the powers-that-be within the Beltway have any number of delaying tactics they can resort to, and on short notice, along the way. It happened in 1971, and in 1933, and in 1963 and 2008 -- and it will happen again. And I suspect that a number of financially-savvy people have profited handsomely by "riding the cycle".

All the major nations are now "off the gold standard", but a few -- Switzerland, the Netherlands, some Scandinavian nations and (interestingly). post-apartheid South Africa! -- would gain ground, and the financial "establishment" would lose, in the short run. But a total socio-economic meltdown isn't likely -- too many followers and too few rebels and outcasts.

But the real danger is that a basic understanding of the working of the economy has been rejected by both major parties -- and that the group who do; entrepreneurs large and small -- are going to be stigmatized as "rednecks", "teabaggers", "haters", or whatever by the power-brokers who profit by keeping the Big Sham going. That would continue to erode the private sector, and might one day revive the double-digit inflation which those of us who were around in the Seventies recall.

And it was the "stagflation" of 1966-1982 that drove the stock markets down to a level which, adjusted for prices, would see the Dow Jones at about 3500 today. And that, in turn, would destroy the value of institutional financing for everything from pensions, to life insurance, to hospital and university endowments.

We're all in this together, whether we recognize it or not.
