Probably the most dangerous form of energy on the planet, in regards to disposing of the fuel waste. We will find an alternative to replace fossil fuels, but I don't think the current nuclear power is not the answer, unless we can find a better way to dispose of the spent fuel.
That doesn't answer the question on safety and disposing of the waste so doesn't harm anyone.
Nuclear power tends to have fewer accidents than oil or coal, but when they go bad it can cause severe and deadly contamination for time periods in excess of the time humanity has been on the Earth. The black zone in Chernobyl is currently considered completely unfit for human habitation, where people are never to return. Then comes the waste (and safety), sometimes with half lives in the millions of years, that needs to be safely disposed.

There was a popular statement years ago made about the issue of nuclear accidents that went something like, "More people have died in Ted Kennedy's car than in nuclear accidents in the USA.
The global warming issue isn't as much of a problem unless you are talking to crackpot liberals who won't be happy until all freedoms are taken from hard working American people who don't collect welfare, own an Obamaphone, use food stamps or are a member of a union. Those people are called racists if they didn't vote for the joker in the White House.
