Get this: If you’ve spent some time in jail, you are much more likely to vote Democrat, according to a new study published in the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science.

The numbers are actually pretty stark. In the three states the study analyzed – New York, New Mexico, and North Carolina – convicts overwhelmingly identified with the Democratic Party. Almost 62% of convicts in New York are registered Democrats and only 9% are Republican; 52% in New Mexico are Democrat, with just over 10% as Republican; and 54.6% are Democrat in North Carolina, and 10.2% are Republican.

There’s a joke in there somewhere about Democrats stealing from the rich, but I’m not going to make it.

Hmmmm could be that many people who have spent time in prison realize that the authoritarian state that some republicans want isnt all that its cracked up to be?

There could be a LOT of differing reasons. Maybe that when forced to choose a party they pick the first one alphabetically?

Maybe they see the Republicans talking about ever harsher sentencing guidelines and think its a bad idea?

Really this is just trolling nonsense.

this simply confirms what we already knew.

Quote:
The researchers estimate that the disenfranchised felon population is composed of approximately
35 percent ex-felons, 28 percent probationers, 9 percent parolees, and 27 percent prison
inmates. The impact of felon disenfranchisement would have been greatly reduced had ex-felons,
parolees, and probationers—all citizens not currently in prison—been permitted to vote in all
states. Their survey data suggest that Democratic candidates would have received about seven
out of every ten votes cast by this disenfranchised population in 14 of the last 15 Senate election
years.
“By removing those with Democratic preferences from the pool of eligible voters, felon
disenfranchisement has provided a small but clear advantage to Republican candidates
in every presidential and senatorial election from 1972 to 2000”

You actually think that they registered as Democrats after prison crushed their soul as opposed to had these political leanings beforehand?

There is a reason why blue cities and counties "tend to be" more dangerous than red areas other than mere coincidence.

The "authoritarian state" you are bemoaning belongs to Obama and the Democrat Party. They are the ones doing drone killings, monitoring our phones and e-mails, and putting surveillance on journalists.

In other words, you by your votes have created that which you decry. Smooth move, buddy.

Criminals thinking harsh sentences are a bad idea? Who would ever have guessed.

Or maybe they support democrats since it's mainly democrats who oppose any kind of identity checks for voting so it's easier for criminals to vote.

Of course since in general they can't vote even after being released from prison chances are they were democrats before these harsh sentences were imposed on them for their continual bad choices.

There's nothing new about this. Just one more study to confirm what everyone already knew.

The study doesn't account for race. The majority of the prison population is non-white and therefore more likely Democrats. We don't lock up enough white collar criminals, they just pay a fine without admitting guilt.

Is anyone really shocked to read that convicts and criminals self associate with the Democrat party?

Birds of a feather...
