Obama really needs to get Congress making laws, not his EO's.

Both of these EO's has to do with gun control and one's mental health.
Congress needs to stand up and take back their jobs..both sides.

Both the House and the Senate are spineless for not taking him to task on this. Irrespective of political affiliation this is not how a representative republic is supposed to govern. This is basically dictatorial.

Congress is stuck. EO's are an effective way for a president to advance the agenda the people elected him to execute (hence, "executive branch")

If the president goes too far, SCOTUS will rein him in.

Meanwhile, both sides will squawk and posture, but they are loath to curb executive power, because next time, their team will be the one trying to move the ball.

Baloney. An EO is what you get when you elect a person with no managerial experience that does not know how to lead. The Congress does not work for the president.

People should not complain with the increasing powers of the Executive branch when they send representitives to Congress with the purpose to "do nothing".

Weren't some of the right wingers on this site, including you I believe, bragging about how little Congress worked this year, passing the least amount of laws. Maybe Congress should have tried to work a little bit harder and then they could have handled things like this.

How many YEARS will that take, and who wants give up their entire life for that time, just to be the test case?

Are you ok with your civil rights being suspended while we wait?

What if this were a freedom of speech issue? Would you be so apathetic about it then?

Too bad that's not his job. His job is to take care that the Laws of the United States are faithfully executed.

"Laws" refers to the laws passed by Congress. "Faithfully" means, he has to carry them out exactly as written; or, if the writing isn't clear, exactly the way Congress intended. It also means he has to execute ALL of them, not pick and choose just the ones he likes.

Doesn't matter what the people intended or wanted. That's his job: To carry out the laws.

(Chuckle) That's cute. How quickly we forget, how the SCOTUS declared that the Obamacare mandate was flatly unconstitutional... and then rewrote it themselves and approved their rewritten version, with no approval needed from Congress.

Great "reining in" job!

Can you clarify the difference between this EO and EOs that other presidents have signed?
