Unemployment insurance is less of a replacement for wages than a guarantee of spending in the economy. Funny thing now is Republicans are arguing the economy is strong and we don't need it.
lol, Obama is expected to talk about the extension a lot over the next few days. But how serious can the Democrats be about this measure if they know it doesn't have a chance in hell in the House unless they can come up with $6 billion in budget cuts? This is the kind of thing that proves it's a political year, where one party or the other only plays at governing while every move is calculated to either advance their electoral fortunes or embarrass the other side.
Unemployment should be means tested. This would take care of a lot of the "sitting around and waiting for the good job" problem. I know a few women who have collected unemployment for the purpose of shopping more while they lived off their husband's salary. If they can live off their husband's salary, then they have no business collecting in the first place. After all, I don't want to pay for her new TV, clothes, shoes, Ipad, or computer.
There are people who are really trying and can't find jobs, yet the dems say the economy is improving. Yeah right. I say the people who can't find jobs need to be required to meet with a caseworker weekly for help with a job search. It isn't good to have people inactive for years at a time. Eventually folks need to take whatever job then can to get back in the workforce. I doubt that an employer in a decent job will consider you after you have been unemployed for three years anyway.
Whats comical to me is that , a few people ive seen tell me that oh since my unemployment has ended i finally found a job .....Go figure
People need to sometimes give up their little lavish lifestyle they once had and stick to the basics of life and the actual needs and not wants . It in the end would make sense.

All of these extensions that must be voted on are only getting partisan politics in the way of people's lives. And most importantly, cutting off unemployment means thousands more people will become homeless. When you're homeless, you CAN'T get a damn job because employers want to see you have an address. And cutting off unemployment means reduced consumer spending, reduced revenues for businesses and landlords, and it's jus...t bad for the economy. It will increase poverty and crime. Not to mention, 75% of the unemployed are NOT currently collecting benefits. What does that tell you? It means that jobs are still very hard to come by for many people. Who cares if 15% of recipients are abusing it. The other 85% really need it. I don't believe in screwing everyone over just because a minority is abusing it. Furthermore, what about the MILLIONS of employed people who are abusing their paychecks by slacking off on the internet for a few hours a day at work? They're being lazy asses WHILE at work! That's even worse, because it's a lot more money and it's not a tax, but rather a DIRECT paycheck being abused!
Are you serious? I can't believe anyone would think it should last forever...The cost alone would put us so far in debt we would never be able to pay for anything else. You are going to offer unemployment to anyone for life, also give them food stamps, welfare checks, cheap or free medical care and what else? this isn't a socialistic country or do you know this?

ash, that's the trick, if you survive the womb, you will be able vote when you get older so the government promises that it will take care of you from cradle to grave. To hell if you wanted a better life than government can give you.
They already have that. It's called welfare, SSDI, food stamps, Section 8, etc. There are people who receive checks from the government their entire lives for sitting on their bums.
That's what I was thinking. Isn't unlimited UI welfare with a more palatable name?

Yes they will find a way to make money. They will start a business, they will do work on the side, they will make something of value and sell it, they will sell things for other people. Lots of ways to make money in this country of ours and we do not need the Government to keep us from success. Handouts are not a way out of a financial mess. All they do is keep you in the mess. As you stated most states do not pay what someone would need to live on anyway. People need to take personal resonsibility for their selves and families and make it happen. Stop waiting for someone else to bail them out. Stop waiting for a job that may or may not come. Make your own income. That is how people that want to succeed do it. That is how immigrants do it. We have friends that are illegal. We met because our kids go to school together. The kids were born here in the USA and are legal. The man of the house has built a business of his own selling peppers, fruit and vegetables, and Mexican candy to stores and resteraunts along the Central Coast of California. Anyone could have done what he did, but he did it because he can't get a job, can not get unemployment benefits, has no one to help him out.
Why not? You get paid good money to lay around and do absolutely nothing all day. You can sleep until noon, get up, play video games or watch television all day, go shopping, have leisurely lunches and dinners, party all night, vacation in the sun all winter -- never have to bother having to work.
Its also not enough to do what you claim. I know I couldn't pay my bills with that, let alone buy groceries or gas.
I'm sure a good many of those collecting are living in mommy and daddy's house, eating their food, driving their car, and spending that money on fun. They just had to convince mom and dad that jobs are impossible to find, and that they aren't just sleeping while they're in their room - they're hard at work looking for jobs that just aren't happening.
