When Reeves returned, witnesses and authorities said that Oulson asked him if he had gone to tell on him for texting. Cummings said that when Reeves returned to the theater, he didn't return with a manager. "He came back very irritated," Cummings recalled.

Voices were raised. Oulson threw a bag of popcorn at Reeves, according to a police report, and then the former police officer took out a .380 semi-automatic handgun and shot Oulson

Perfectly understandable. After all, one of those kernels could have hit him in the eye. The eye! So he had to shoot him really, what other option was there?

Unfortunately movie theater managers probably do not exactly have concierge skills--although this may change in the future.
It's the "Grove 16 and CineBistro". Don't know if this one was a CineBistro - but if you set it up like a restaurant or family room don't be surprised if people treat it like one.

Attention: Cobb Grove 16 is Temporarily Closed.

We will reopen for business on Wednesday, January, 15.

Guests with pre-purchased tickets will be issued alternative movie passes or a refund with ticket purchase confirmation at the box office once opened.

Thank you,
Cobb Theatres Management

If he threw enough popcorn at him it could smother him. Obviously a case where deadly force was necessary to protect himself.

Okay, tactically speaking, I would toss the popcorn at my opponent while reaching for my pistol at the same time. I'd especially do that if it appeared that my opponent's gun hand was poised to go for his gun.

"Get a shot off fast. This upsets him long enough to let you make your second shot perfect. " Robert A. Heinlein (as Lazarus Long)

"There is no second-place winner in a gunfight" -- Bill Jordan

But this all means--as I said earlier--that if I'm packing heat, I'm going to practice extreme confrontation avoidance.

I wonder if it was done with an assault rifle :-) I mean a rifle, I mean a semi-automatic, a machine gun? No? OH I guess this one will be a quiet story then.
It was done by an ex-police officer, retired captain and he was 71. I suspect we wont see any calls for gun laws on this one. :-)

What law is going to keep a gun nut from killing you?

The moral of this horror story is when out in public...keep you eyes forward, don't make any noises that may set one off. Don't wear bright clothing. walk slowly. try not to startle one. You might just make it home alive.

I am not excusing the actions of the shooter as I believe he used excessive force.
Exactly. Throwing a bag of popcorn at some one what are we children? A man in his 40s throwing popcorn at people, SMH.

If someone is so unbalanced that they'd throw a bag of popcorn on a stranger who knows what else they're capable of? We need more facts. One report I read the popcorn was thrown, there was an altercation and then gunshots.

If popcorn was thrown and then he shot him he is going to prison. If there was a fight he will probably get off. Either way the dead guy is the bad guy in all of this IMHO. His behavior was deplorable.
