I plan to work for at least another 5 years and hopefully 10 or 15. I will not quit work until I am no longer able to perform to standards. I know someone who still works full time and he is 85 and my hero.
I don't feel old just yet but I do feel the onset of middle age. Honestly, can anyone define what old age is?
I do a lot of physical work at home but last summer I put on 10 pounds and it was all belly. Just that little bit of weight gain really slowed me down. I made a cautious effort too eat less and avoid food at night and have lossed most of that weight and feel better. Though I am balding and have horrid memory and eye sight that extra weight made me feel old since I was born with a naturally good body.
When I look in the mirror. I don't feel old, have no aches, pains, no shortness of breath - none of that. I have kids at home and so am "current". But I look like effing Methuselah!
Yup. The mirror does not lie!
My early years were physically demanding as I grew up, so the wear and tear set in pretty early- enough that I became accustomed to stiffening knees and a back gradually going bad- but it's only been over the last 3-4 years that I see an aging man in the mirror.
Premature grey hair runs in my family, so I started turning grey before I was 30. Now that I'm turning white, it's a whole other story!
But mentally, I don't feel old just yet. I nerves paid too much attention to the fads that come and go anyway. I figure that I'll be old when I find I've given up some of the major interests that have formed my life, and so far, none have disappeared yet.

Kids will do that to you. They also suck every bit of patience out of you. It never comes back fully.
When I walk up and down stairs, I feel like I'm out of breath. I'm starting to get gray hair now also.
The stairs thing isn't old. It's out of shape.
I don't have the 'bounce back' I used to when I was younger.
And all the injuries I have from sports are plaguing me now.
Your body just isn't as resilient.
Also, I can't eat whatever I want whenever I want.
