From the NYT...U.S. to Expand Rules Limiting Use of Profiling by Federal Agents

"The Justice Department will significantly expand its definition of racial profiling to prohibit federal agents from considering religion, national origin, gender and sexual orientation in their investigations, a government official said Wednesday.

The move addresses a decade of criticism from civil rights groups that say federal authorities have in particular singled out Muslims in counterterrorism investigations and Latinos for immigration investigations." (my highlights)

So under the Obama administration federal agents can't single out members of the religion most responsible for terrorism in the world List of Islamic terrorist attacks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or concentrate on the people most responsible for sneaking into the United States.

Feel safer now?

When you focus too much on race and ethnicity, you take a chance on letting important targets slip through the cracks.

For example, the #1 terrorist in LA right now is a white kid who infiltrated from Canada.

Form the OP's link:
"As written, the Justice Department’s rules prohibit federal agents from using race as a factor in their investigations unless there is specific, credible information that makes race relevant to a case.

For example, narcotics investigators may not increase traffic stops in minority neighborhoods on the belief that some minorities are more likely to sell drugs. They can, however, rely on information from witnesses who use race in their descriptions of suspects."

I think that's acceptable. As a black man I'm tired of being pulled over by Police for absolutely no reason. I'm sure in NY they're tired of being stopped and frisked as well. Profiling is not right. If there's probable cause there's probable cause.

Your 8 times more likely to be killed by a Police officer than by a terrorist.

Not everyone is going to get this, but I got it. Thanks for the laugh!

Or if your black and do something like... reach for your wallet.

You can get killed in your own home by the Police these days. Happens all the time.

But back to the topic, yes profiling is wrong. Especially when in this country it seems that its almost always minorities being targeted.

The Bush administration banned profiling in 2003, but with two caveats: It did not apply to national security cases, and it covered only race, not religion, ancestry or other factors.
Looks like you would have had to gone all the way back and voted for Gore..........
