"The Keystone XL pipeline, which the State Department estimated would support over 42,000 jobs, remains unapproved even after years of delay, the letter states. "I once again urge you to take immediate action on these infrastructure projects, which you have generally promised to champion." - Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) in a letter to President Obama.
When he's roaming around the country giving speeches on jobs and putting people back to work, he needs to get pressured to respond about his lack of action. Canada is ticked off at him for taking his sweet time on it and threatens to sell it's oil to Asia. Why aren't the unions on his case?
"Meanwhile, China's growing economy is hungry for Canadian oil. Chinese state-owned companies have made multibillion-dollar investments in Canadian energy in the past few years. "They follow this quite closely," said Wenran Jiang, an energy expert and special adviser to Alberta's Department of Energy.
"The TransCanada Corporation first sought U.S. regulatory permission back in September 2008, in the form of a “presidential permit” to construct the second of two Keystone pipelines...Asked two months ago to specify a timeframe by which the Obama administration might eventually rule on the revised TransCanada application, a spokesperson for Secretary of State John Kerry could not do so. SO let me get this straight, you support 42,000 temporary jobs on a pipeline(were only 3,900 are guaranteed), but you dont support 1.2 million temporary construction jobs which would have at least 600,000 be guaranteed ???
IF you are wondering where i got those numbers

5) The Keystone XL project, if built, would support 42,000 jobs over its two-year construction period. "Including direct, indirect, and induced effects, the proposed Project would potentially support approximately 42,100 average annual jobs across the United States over a 1-to 2-year construction period (of which, approximately 3,900 would be directly employed in construction activities)." As with all construction projects, these jobs would be temporary.
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) wants President Obama to get on board with her push for lifting the U.S. ban on crude exports and approving the proposed Keystone XL pipeline.
In a letter sent to Obama on Tuesday, Murkowski called on the president to take executive action.
"While I believe you retain the executive authority necessary to lift the ban on crude exports, if you need legislative support from the Congress in order to do so, you will always have a willing partner from Alaska," Murkowski wrote in the letter on Tuesday.
Well well. A Republican calling on the President to use his "excutive authority" to lift the ban...
Last year Kerry said any time now, this year he said sometime soon.
That was after the year before when we were told the state dept had no issues with the pipeline.
Kerry is on Obama time.
How does it feel to be played by your transparent president who fails to reveal his intentions re the pipeline?

Well, well. A Republican also calling for eminent domain and seizing land from farmers.
Landowners in the path of the pipeline have complained about threats by TransCanada to confiscate private land and lawsuits to allow the "pipeline on their property even though the controversial project has yet to receive federal approval."[85] As of October 17, 2011, TransCanada had "34 eminent domain actions against landowners in Texas" and "22 in South Dakota." Some of those landowners gave testimony for a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing in May 2011.[85]
Daryl Hannah and 78-year-old Texas landowner Eleanor Fairchild were arrested for criminal trespassing and other charges after they were accused of standing in front of pipeline construction equipment on Fairchild's farm in Winnsboro, a town about 100 miles (160 km) east of Dallas.[128] Fairchild has owned the land since 1983 and refused to sign any agreements with TransCanada. Her land was seized by eminent domain.

Asia is a much bigger and faster growing market than the US, and Canada will sell oil to China and Asia regardless of the Keystone XL pipeline. A trans-Rocky pipeline from the tar sands to the Pacific coast was recently approved. Note that Keystone XL is just another route to Asia as it's function is just to move Canadian oil to Texas ports for export. It's not to move Canadian oil for US consumption.
One might want to remember those oil train explosions.
Which would you rather have in your back yard, railroad tracks with hundreds of oil filled cars everyday, or a nice quiet pipeline being constantly monitored to ensure your safety?
One or the other WILL happen, until the need for petroleum is eliminated. THAT will not happen anytime soon! It quite simply is used for too many things in the world today, things that YOU use everyday, even if you do not own a vehicle of any kind!

Funny how Republicans and conservatives never mention these things when they talk about how wonderful the Keystone Pipeline is gonna be for us. And I wonder who would benefit from this Keystone Pipeline? Something tells me it won't be Americans, or at least not most Americans.

I'm wondering what 1.2m temporary jobs you are talking about?
