Airlines New Polar Vortex Problem: Angry Parents - Businessweek

So do you think the airlines aren't doing enough? Are the parents justified in their anger? Should other passengers just be moved around to accomodate families with small children in these situations when travel has been delayed due to weather conditions that aren't the fault of the passengers?

In 20 years, I racked up millions of miles flying for business purposes. This is a typical situation when passengers are rebooked due to cancelled flights. I never once observed anyone in a aisle or window seat insist on remaining in their assigned seat next to an unattended infant/ young child. Most are happy to do so to avoid being seated next to infants and small children. Some are not happy about it, but moving is better than remaining planted, especially on a 6 hour flight.

Parents often resent having to negotiate and prefer to have the carrier displace passengers to accommodate them.

And around we go.

Far more common are infrequent flyers who become irrational when they learn the carrier has no obligation to lodge or feed them due to delays/cancellations caused by weather.
