I visit a friend regularly in the area, there is a lot of places to redevelop and expand to outside of that one tract of land. Parts of the city that wouldn't take millions in investment before it even could be considered for use.

It is also their city, the voters get to decide what happens there. For some one who seems to love to talk about self determination you love to tell other people what to do.

??? Mostly benefit the poor in what way? There is wholesale poverty in outer East Portland - the area last annexed by the city and the area with the worst infrastructure, worst recreational access, and worst transit. The city is not run by or for the poor, but by the yuppies and hipsters who think they know what is best for the poor. A few years ago the city wanted more money for arts, which the school district was cutting due to budget issues, so the city created a flat $35 tax on every adult above poverty level - which is an incredibly regressive tax which hardly benefits the poor. Turns out that state law prohibits taxing Social Security and public pension income, so a burger flipper has to pay the tax while a government retiree does not. Yeah that benefits the poor.

East Portland is a whole different animal that tends to get screwed over by the city in general. Unless you live in East Portland the people in the Portland Metro couldn't tell you what the boundaries are for that area. Most think it is just Gresham.

Blue states pump the poor with government assistance , and we see how well those ebt cards are spent lol .
And then these companies come to red states like SC for example, where they get 30 years of fee in lieu of tax breaks, tax credits, infrastructure built for them, county or city builds a site for them, etc. Then they pay their full time workers half what they made before relocating and outsource the biggest chunk, parttimers, through temp agencies who pay even less and provide no benefits; The general motivation being if you work hard youll get hired in. Yeah...maybe after 15 years...MAYBE.

Yeah, the red states are really getting the sweet side of the candy...bulls##T. This is why blue states and blue cities tend to pay for gub'ment assistance lol

George Bush proved that Red State policies not only don't help any state in this country but Texas, but they don't help most of the red states. Liberal policies are far better than bigot policies.

This country made the mistake of putting a red state person at the helm when it foolishly elected Bush. Dubya took red to a new level in causing the country to bleed to death.

Thank God the brilliant President Obama came after him and went a long way towards stopping the bleeding. It surely is going to take decades to undo the damage that Republicans did under Dubya.
