He was a closeted heterosexual Christian. I'm glad he found the courage to come out. All the outrage is clearly from hetereophobes and Christianophobes.
I find it hilarious that people out there think people "righteously chose" to be straight or "sinfully chose" to be gay (or that evil spirits make them do it, or whatever.)
Gender preference is hard-wired. So, the next time some bigot starts spewing about "'dem gays and dem chosin' their evil sinner lifestyle," ask them when they chose to be straight? I have to assume in their crazy world, there comes a time in the life of every teenage man and woman where he or she decides to be gay or straight, right? I guess in their fantasy universe, the "good folk" go home and read various holy books and realize the "Abomination!" of being gay (right before they put on some mixed fabrics and go out to eat shrimp at Red Lobster) while the evil communists go home and read Marx and become gay... or something like that.
After all, it's "a choice" they claim. Even though all evidence clearly proves to the contrary and straight people obviously don't chose to be straight. People also don't chose to be turned on certain physical characteristics of the opposite gender - no man has ever sat in his living room and pondered if he should like big butts or large breasts based upon the available dating pool in his area. And yet, "it's a choice" we're told over and over again by people who clearly have no idea how human sexuality works.
As for the guy in question who was "once gay" and "now is not" - he's clearly bisexual. Again, people don't just decide to be gay or straight since, realistically, if they did, everyone would chose to be straight: you'd avoid all the bigots, have a reduced chance of various STD's, and have a much larger dating pool. But logic has no place in the realm of bigoted lunacy.
A study done a couple of years ago by Christian researchers showed that sexual orientation doesn't really change. Not surprising that you won't see it on conservative religious anti-gay websites.
“Characteristics of Mixed Orientation Couples: An Empirical Study"
"While it was not a study of efforts to change, one could reasonably assume that if a group had participants who had shifted orientation very much, then this would be the group. However, that is not what they found"
Christian Psychologist Dr Throckmorton says: "I think evangelicals need to face what evangelical academics are finding in research"
Luckily rational intelligent grown ups realize that life is a lot more complicated than magical simplistic childish cookie-cutter black and white notions.
Heterosexuality, religion, are childish ! It is a good thing homosexuals are there to help normal and traditional people ( the vast, vast majority of human beings ) to grow out of those childish notions.
What's childish is extrapolating that from what Ceist said.

In no way does that make you sound like you're 14 years old.
Have some dignity.
