As a kewl cigarette relaxes one, the sound of music another, the touch of another, does reading the Bible produce any physical reactions you notice upon reading?

Brain chemistry is nothing more than response to, physical manifestation in a physical body, of process called "thinking".
Any spiritual book, if read with open heart and mind, will produce result questioned. It does not even matter, if the language is understood. One can chant Ohm, ma, ne, pad, meh, hum, or simply look at this image

without knowing exactly what the words or writings mean, but it will still produce positive result. But for closed minded, or those that don't care, yes indeed, yawn it will be.

Reading the Bible made me understand that half of the stuff I was taught at my southern Baptist Church was either a lie , or strongly twisted to fit preconceived notions.

You are correct.

Buddhist meditations calms the mind and it has been scientifically proved to lower the blood pressure.

So does petting a cat or a dog.

Om Mani Padme Hum is a Tibetan chant. (I've been to Tibet) It literally means "Hail to the Jewel in the Lotus" ('Jewel in the Lotus' is a poetic honorific for the Buddha), but a more precise meaning is something like "Behold the Majesty of the Supreme Truth of our Lord Buddha's Teachings."

Devout Tibetans recite this chant many times during the day.

Those of the Theravadin tradition - that is, most South Asian and South-East Asian Buddhists - will chant Namo Tassa Bhagavato Arahato Samma Sambuddhasa. This roughly translates to "Hail and Salutations to the Worthy One, the Blessed One, the Supremely Enlightened One."

The bible is considered "spiritual food" for the believer.

Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17)

Sanctify them through thy word thy word is truth John (17:17)

It inspires confidence: King David wrote psalm 23 when he was hiding inside a cave because his favorite son Absalom had 50,000 men looking for him to Kill Him. Yet his confidence is incredible.
