I love when people say this. They have no clue what the word scripted means. It's not scripted. There is no writer. It's not faked. It's mostly real. They do some clever editing and they do some trickery but 90-99% of what you see and hear is the real deal. You gotta remember you don't see the 600 hours of uninteresting taped material after all.

Many realty TV programs ( the towing/ repo ones) actually start out as believable , but it seems they want to make each program more sensational , and thus they become phony as a $3 bill.

First 48 still is good................IMHO
In real life repos are made about 3 AM when no one is awake.
Because... scripted TV has become such completely uninspired and repetitive garbage? The same old murder shows, police dramas, worn out comedies, lame family dramedies, and other drek.
Believe it or not, we have the crack epidemic to thank for 'Reality TV'.
COPS was allowed on ride-along's to provide the viewing public w/ boots-on-the-ground perspective.
BOOM - format was born.
Because there is so much of it. And why? Because its cheap to produce since you don't have to pay actors.
They aren't actors, but they do get paid. They can rack up six figures - $300,000 to $500,000 over the years and their 15 minutes of fame as long as the show runs. Honey BooBoo is worth $300,000 and her family gets paid $50,000 per episode.
