Now who is more productive and competitive in the global market?

The American fellow making $7.15/hr making 12 widgets
The Chinese fellow making $1.17/hr making 12 widgets
The Indonesian fellow making $.52/hr making 12 widgets

Now what happens if you raise the minimum wage of the American without a comparable increase in the minimum wage of the Chinese and Indonesian fellows?
Read your last sentence VERY carefully.

6 days ago-Beijeng raised the minimum wage to 1,560 yuan per month. in 2009 it was 800. Sooo...if we follow your logic a raise to over $14 would be perfectly acceptable right?

Yes I know its regional-but their minimums have been rapidly rising all over, this is one example

Wrong, because Americans are already uncompetitive in the global market. China can raise the minimum wage all they want and the only thing that will do is increase the speed at which capital flows out of their country and into countries with lower wages. But that's not entirely bad thing for the world, it sucks for first world countries though. That is exactly what is catapulting large swaths of people into the global middle class. You should be clapping your hands but instead you have disdain.

Nice, you've instantly gone from "its only ok to raise the minimum wage if china does it too" to "no thats wrong we cant no matter what"

I have a lot of disdain for people who do not comprehend WHY businesses are where they are, or what drives them. Moving to another country is not free. The VAST majority of minimum wage jobs CAN'T be moved to china. They are guys mowing your lawns, cooking food, etc etc etc.

Sigh.

And they have the 4th largest employment rate for the eurozone, and average unemployment rate.

What that means is-they're highly employed. 72.8% to be exact. Our highest ever has been 8% smaller then that.

We'd be thankful for this. And with a excellent safety net thats not too bad.

Talk to me when their employment rate hits our level...I think its 62% currently.

So you are saying we should pay Americans $0.52/hr to make widgets so we can compete with China and Indonesia? So we can turn our country into a third world country seeing widgets to the Europeans because they are the only ones paying a decent living that their people can afford the widgets we make?

Makes you wonder what it going on in the Netherlands, right? A quick Google search would have told you that they are in a recession due to a drop in housing construction. Basically they are going through their own version of a housing bubble bust right now and it is having a major effect on their unemployment numbers.

Wow. So all we have to do is to start paying people $1.17 / hr and we could compete with China. Problem solved. Lets stop exporting jobs to third world, lets bring third world home!

My friend I know quite a few "baristas" at Starbucks with degrees and nice appearance. Welcome to XXI century!

Speaking proper English, no criminal records, a decent appearance all play a big part.

You walk into a FF place looking all gangsta with your "homies" in tow and you are NOT getting that job no matter how desperate the store is for workers

But if you live in your middle class bubble and only read biased MSM articles you'd never know would you ?
