Coke's polylingual anthem ad is just something new to be outraged at.
If you want to be outraged...start with the game or the quality of the ads.
The only ad that made me lol was the Doritos' Time Machine ad.
I have to agree with you, the commercials were pretty lame and disappointing. When a game sucks as bad as this one did you hope and pray the commercials will be semi-entertaining.
I hated the commercial. It just encourages people to hold onto their national identities from their country of origin. The increasing diversity does not make us a stronger nation it makes us weaker. 100 years ago, you generally had an American identity. People had very similar values and beliefs. Now all it is is a bunch of rats fighting for their chunk of the cheese.
Some people can't distinguish between requiring an allegiance to America, if one wants to enjoy the benefits of this country, and racism. No one I know advocates discrimination towards immigrants or foreign language speakers, on the contrary. The goal is one country, one flag, one people regardless of race, culture or creed with a common language as the bridge.
Cultural values and traditions are not the issue. Not difficult concepts for most. Some only want to silence the discussion by shouting racism, missing the point completely.
You know what is cheesy? The super bowl. I haven't watched that thing for as long as I can remember. Amazing how hyped up people get about a sport. What is also cheesy is that people can get so worked up about a commercial. A commercial people, a commercial.
Look how people get fired up over politics, why? No one here is going to change a thing, its the arguing that must make it fun. At least Seattle won, a win for a politician means 1/2 the country just got screwed.
Multiculturalism is wonderful, but the problem is the language barrier. The US is a predominantly English speaking country, and there are pockets of immigrants who don't seem to assimilate. That's what this commercial does wrong; instead of showing people of different races and cultures singing in English, they show them singing and song about America in their own language. They're identifying with their country of origin first and as Americans second and this is a big problem. Language barriers create racial tension, limit the immigrants job and employment opportunities, and to many people shows disrespect for the country they moved to.
Americans could never get away with moving to another country en masse and refusing to learn the local language. The US is a melting pot only if people are willing to melt, otherwise it will remain a fractured nation of cultural clusters. That being said, I have overwhelming respect for immigrants who come to the US, learn to speak our language and identify as Americans.
