Yesterday, U.S. District Court Judge Arenda Wright considered arguments in Norfolk, Virginia in a case known as Bostic v. Rainey which challenges the state’s constitutional amendment banning marriage equality and told litigants she would issue a ruling “soon,” although she provided no specific timeline for when the decision would be handed down.
Same-sex couples in Wisconsin joined others throughout the country on Monday in filing a lawsuit seeking same-sex marriage, but efforts there are unique because of the penalties for marrying in another jurisdiction.
The litigation seeks not only to overturn the state’s 2006 constitutional amendment barring same-sex marriage, but also to enjoin state official from enforcing a “marriage evasion law” prohibiting couples — gay and straight — from going elsewhere to marry if the marriage would be prohibited in the state.
The penalties of violating the marriage evasion law in Wisconsin, which is the only state to have such a statute, include up to $10,000 in fines and nine months in prison.
"The Scottish parliament overwhelmingly passed a bill Tuesday permitting same-sex weddings to take place in the country, despite opposition from Scotland’s two largest churches.
The parliament voted 105 to 18 in favor of the bill, which will allow gay and lesbian weddings to take place in Scotland as early as the fall."
I meant the American Revolution. Taxation without representation. Those that don't want homosexual marriage aren't being represented...
They will get around to forcing it on us as well...gonna be a BIG mistake.
Settle petal, no need to get your bloomers all twisted up in a wad. No-one is forcing you to marry someone of the same sex. I guess that must be hard concept for you to understand. It's just like when interracial marriage was legalized, no-one was forced to marry someone of a different race.
Our will is still not being represented...you are missing the point...its a fundamental flaw of democracy...
Your will is irrelevant on the issue of civil rights. That's why they're called rights... ie, not subject to popular vote.
You realize you already have your right to choose to not engage in a same sex marriage, right? Therefore, none of your rights are being violated.
Save your drama about the American Revolution. If there's anyone who should be crying that it's gay folks, who pay all the taxes of straight folks, yet do not have the full array of rights that straight folks do.
Your kind? Just a bunch of whiny sniveling anchors on human progress. Have been for centuries, but thankfully growing less common in western civilization.
