Doctors (for example) who want to be self sustaining should not have the government forcibly in their pocket books and balance sheets.

A popular American icon Star Trek's Mr Spock remarked "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few or the even one." SOCAILISM IS THE ATTEMPT TO BRING THIS VIEW OF THINGS INTO REALITY.

Without socialism Darwinian competition violent or otherwise would have seen a winner or small group of winners impose their wishes on society or even lead to the elimination of said society if that be their wish. Just what Orwell feared. An Orwellian world ruled by an olligarchy might be quite nice and cozy but one would always have to remember that the highest crime is simply saying an inconvenient truth or thinking one is free. Freedom is the right to say 2+2 = 4 , from this all else follows.

So socialism....what things do we do that are socialistic.

We pay for k-12 education. As someone else pointed out-you chose to have kids, why should I pay for them?

Social security. Somewhat arguable, but everyone pays in wither they like it or not. I've seen many people argue against it.

Healthcare. Theres a mixture here, medicaid, medicare, etc

Unemployment insurance.

and many many more. The question is...how much socialism is OK?

For those that say none-describe what you think the country would look like. I've had some fascinating discussions about this, involving police as a insurance policy provided by people buying services, or paying for specific ones.
What do you mean "we" pay for education? Property owners pay for education. If you don't own property, you're not supporting education (unless your landlord is smart enough to include that as part of the rent, but I have a feeling that many of them don't).

Unemployment insurance used to be paid for by the employer (through a tax). I'm not sure if that still happens, but it has never been the realm of the Federal Government until now.

Regardless, that doesn't mean socialism is good. It isn't, and we shouldn't keep going further down this road, which is where the Progressives want to take us.

i don't know where you are, but this isn't true where i live; county sales taxes are one of several forms of taxation that goes towards local k-12 education. so anyone who purchases something supports education financially.

not to mention we have state income taxes that fund university education

.
"You have a feeling"? Lol

How about knowledge? Of course they include it like every other cost. If taxes would go the rants would go up proportionally.

Jeez.

What is the source of these multipliers?

The government built Harvard, Stanford, and Princeton? The government built roads and schools? I thought my tax money built all that... The government doesn't generate much money than it takes from other people... True enough, the government built and manages the courts, I hardly call that a success or even great when we are known throughout the world as a litigious society...

I own property. Before that when I rented a portion of my rent money paid for the taxes, thus schools. So yes we do pay for education unless you live in a box.

UI-sure fair enough. Still a limited form of socialism.

Denmark Is Considered The Happiest Country. You'll Never Guess Why.

There will always be people who take advantage of social programs, but society can't survive without them. And anyone who says it can is kidding themselves. If this country had and every man for himself attitude, there would be a lot of death and sadness. A completely capitalistic country will leave the poorest and most vulnerable behind.
People actually being proud of acting vulnerable like children
