And yes, it'd need to be increased now to reach the level of the early 80s.
Why?

What kind of "Inflation?"

Wage Inflation?
Demand-pull Inflation?
Cost-push Inflation?
Real Inflation?
Interest Inflation?

What is the purpose of Economics?

What does it say when the Department of Housing & Urban Development tells a single person with no dependents that $9,101 annual income is too much money to qualify for Section 8 Housing?

What does it say when HUD tells a single person with no dependents who lives in a different part of the US that they qualify for HUD Section 8 and tax-payers are standing by ready to pay their rent, even though they are paid $26.75/hour and have an annual income of $53,490?

$12/hour can equal $4/hour depending on where in the US you live, and it can also equal $36/hour.

You need to expand your study of Economics beyond the first 3 minutes of class.

59% actually.

The Big Mac Index. Yeah, that is conclusive proof.

Rising price of living in Australia
Date April 27, 2013Australia might be known as the lucky country, but you need to have plenty of money to actually enjoy it.

This week, a Deutsche Bank report illustrated what many suspect - whether catching public transport, ordering a beer or buying medicine to battle a cold, Australians pay among the highest prices on the planet.

The rising cost of living in Australia

A report prepared by the University of Canberra's National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling (NATSEM) found that cost increases in utilities (water, gas, electricity), along with health and education had also contributed to the rising cost of living in Australia. Utilities rose 14% from 2012, health went up by 6.2% and education by 5.5%. These costs, especially utilities, made up a higher share of low-income household expenditure but had little impact upon high-income households.

No, not to the extent that they have gone where I used to live so I sold and moved.
They upped the taxes but not the wages. Instead they bought fancy fire trucks that could deal with a 5 floor apartment complex when none existed in town.

To just keep raising taxes without questioning what they are spending it on is living in ignorance.

So you were lying earlier. You implied that you had a boss, if you work for yourself then it is you who controls your own pay scale.

Then it sounds like you need to take it up with your city council, don't you elect the people that spend those tax dollars or are you living in some liberal tax and spend city...well town actually if there are no 5 story buildings?

Ah yes, so your statement was purely fictional rather than based on reality.

Wow, this is excellent.

You just can't stop coming up with bright ideas.

Great, raise property taxes, so retired and underemployed people cannot afford to pay for them, and a tax lien is placed against their house, and a corporation purchases it and eventually the bank forecloses on their house.

Brilliant!

You are amazingly intelligent. This will work out perfectly in 10 years when Social Security is reduced by 25-35% and perhaps the majority of residences can be purchased by a corporation or multiple corporations that can collude to fix prices in rent.

You should win an award for your insight.

Maybe one day, we can both be fortunate to pay over 50% of our wages to afford housing, or even better, perhaps we can be roommates because we have no choice other than living in our cars!
