I think police don't want to be bothered with this, so people have to understand if you call them about an animal something bad might happen. If you care about the cats, there are groups all over that will help, but you don't call the police. I had a kitten living under my shed, it looked domestic and was alone, the closest animal shelter would not accept because of a jurisdiction issue. Fortunately I met someone who would take the kitten. Otherwise I would have had to pay an out of town shelter to take it, which I would have done. But, NO police if you care about the welfare of strays or ferals.
Police or not, who the hell shoots cats? This guy should've been fired on the spot. I dont know if he ended up being fired, but it does appear this is an old story. There appeared to be some backlash after his bosses let him keep his job.

I still cant get over feeling the need to shoot kittens. Seriously, kittens. And only in a union type, public sector cesspool do people like this continually go mostly unpunished.

It's not realistic, trapping and transporting and euthanizing is expensive. Ferals are so out of control and diseased in many places that they are considered vermin. People who get cute kitties and fail to neuter are responsible for all of this.

These brave POS thugs aren't content with just shooting crippled people or restrained pets. I just wonder how long Americans will just sit back while cops trample on Constitutional rights on a daily basis.
how is a gunshot to to the head not humane?

Where in this country is shooting ferral cats or any stray animal in the field municipal animal control policy? No where in the piece did it say the officer was following Police or City rules on stray animals...Only that they were not going to discipline this wack job.

I have had dealings with feral cats and even the kittens, if they are old enough to run, forget about catching them if they are outdoors. They are just as wild as wild can be. I had some trapped in a college building once, they followed mom inside. And I had all I could do to try and round them up, one by one, and get them out. One even bit through my leather glove when I picked it up, and this was a small kitten!! I cornered and covered the last ones, one by one, with a trash can and then picked them up in the plastic bag liner and dumped them back outside so they could rejoin mom. Personally I would have tried to trap these first with food in a small cage animal trap. Or trap mom and hopefully the kittens at the same time. They are very cunning and smart. But I do not want to "Monday Morning Quarterback".

Very true. Not just Police but politicians as well. And don't forget the wealthy (bankers, Wall St., Execs, etc).

We have a 2 class system.

We have a 2 class system.
Seems the middle class and those not very or in public sector are the only ones that have to face real consequences.

Thats pathetic, is this the mentality cops have degenerated to the killing of kittens in front of children?

So forget about the cats. The cop should have been fired for shooting the gun with kids around.
