Two words: New math. 1960's. LOTS of tears. Many of them shed by parents.

I certainly did!

My kids have had rough nights, too. No parent likes to see her kid cry over difficult homework, but sooner or later it will happen. I have a very upset young man struggling with pre-algebra sitting right next to me at the dining room table as I make this post. Last night, it was the same story. He'll get past it, and so will the young girl in the photo.

Honestly, I think homework SHOULD be challenging. If school isn't challenging the kids tend to get bored.

I thought it was to train them to accept nonsensical unfathomable methodologies so that when introduced to a socialist state they will accept the excuse that it is just too complicated for them to understand, rather than question the foolishness of the idea.

SHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Your letting the proverbial cat out of the bag! If concerned parents, good, honest teachers, and non-corrupt politicians found out what this corrupt, communist plan was all about, this could disrupt the DNC's and teachers unions plans to ensure future voters and lifetime job security forever!!! They NEED those mind-numbed, skulls full of mush to BE BRAIN DEAD and not be able to think for themselves! OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

Kids at schools in Manchester, NH will soon be free of Common Core since kids are failing. Seems they can't drop the program in the middle of the year. Teachers are "sneaking" in old math papers so they can actually teach math the right way. They're not supposed to, but they are even teaching cursive.

It's time teachers became more involved in teaching and not forced into politics by unions and common core propaganda. I know a teacher still teaching global warming is going to kill us all...and that is in 4th grade. She never checked the research, just bought what she was told. Blame system, not teachers, but...there is a limit.

We know a teacher that is retired and she was helping with class one day as a volunteer. She wrote an assignment on the board in cursive and the kids said they could not read it. They don't teach cursive anymore so the kids can't read it.

HUH?

I'm currently watching the transformation in my niece as she is learning to despise all things school related.

Hopefully our next education reform can be designed by actual teachers and not curriculum sales reps.
Only in our dreams....

My oldest comes home all the time with ALL her math problems wrong, funny thing is they are only wrong by 1 so I know she knows the answer but is bored,me and her mother and teacher already had a conference in which the teacher told us She is VERY advanced in reading skills etc but is right at the right level with math so she can't just whip right through it and it bores her...She gets home we make her redo every single one of them. We have heard it all I hate you,why do I have to do this its my life blah blah blah..I told her she may hate me now but she will eventually thank me for busting her butt over this...I wish she understood how much of a privilege it is to be smart and not struggle with stuff like I did as a kid in school...

Color me unimpressed. If the kid can't figure out the homework, the teacher can explain it the next day. The parent strikes me as a real winner, if they can't figure out second grade math.

We need more tiger mothers. Actually, it should be a requirement.
