It's amazing to me it was voted down, with VW being so recepetive to the idea. However, there were multiple outside lobbying groups who came into town to support the Republicans war on organized labor, and sure enough, it worked.
It's really not that hard to convince Americans to vote against their own best interests, and this vote goes to show that. I will only buy VW's built in Wolfsburg, where my current one came from.
Explain to me how the workers decision is a bad idea? What's wrong with not joining the UAW other than better pay?
It was the workers that voted, not the company executives.
This is a global economy now so Americans better wake up to that fact.
VW can go anywhere in the world and open a plant.
The union lost the vote because those workers want to keep their jobs for the long haul, that's why.
Capitalism and rich people win,Workers lose. Rich bosses get richer/workers get to be used even more. Must be fun for the rich snobs to have such useful idiots.
German management and unions work together to make intelligent decisions for the good of the company, something that is in short supply in the US. There is so much mistrust and greed on both sides in the US, they would rather drive healthy companies into bankruptcy rather than make a reasonable compromise.
Yep. That's it in a nutshell.

That is one of the stupidest comments I've seen in a while.

Do you think the workers would have voted the same way without intimidation tactics from the governor? It was a close vote. If the UAW members make less money why aren`t the conservatives here pro union? Their Bible tells them low wages are the key to a prosperous nation. Look at Haiti and Guatemala!
The people who work there evaluated what they had versus what a Union might be able to deliver. They obviously decided that paying Union dues, simply to say they are a Union wasn't a good choice.
The Union wanted to get in where I work. The Union admitted that as far as pay and benefits went that they wouldn't be able to do much for us. Now why would I want to pay a Union dues when they admit that they couldn't do much for me? WE already are the place to work. Perhaps the employees at Volks Wagon felt the same way.
