After the abuses we have seen by this president and his administration, I wouldn't blame you for thinking that every administrative agency has been turned into a political tool.
You want Obama to sign an executive order to abolish this 100 year law?

The problem is because of the 1920 federal Maritime Act. It prevents foreign vessels from moving cargo from one U.S. port to another. It was designed to protect the U.S. shipping industry from foreign competition.
Christie shows himself to be a typical Republican by trying to smuggle in salt on a foreign flag carrier thus cheating Americans of jobs. Quick action by HS busts up the clandestine off-shoring operation and exposes the Republican plot. The salt is likely now on a legal US flag carrier having been loaded by union dock workers and is on its way to New Jersey. Why won't Christie just play by the rules?
A tad more digging and I learned the salt originally arrived and was offloaded, in Maine, from a cargo ship from Chile. The only ship capable of carrying 40,000 tons of salt from Searsport, Maine to Newark was another foreign-flagged ship. Otherwise, it's going to take a series of barges and more time to transport to NJ.
Had NJ ordered the salt, the Chilean ship could have diverted to Newark.
The whole deal reminds me of how NJ ran out of gas after Sandy and requested and received a waiver for foreign-flagged ships from the gulf.
I got into the whole maritime history thing because of an interest in historical passenger ships.
Roads are perfectly wet and clear here in NJ , dunno what you guys are complaining about ?
One thing i will say tho is they sure as hell did waste a **** load of salt. Makes you wonder what these people do all day knowing a big storm is coming , wouldnt you check salt levels etc and not wait last minute for more salt to come in lol .
