What is so sad, is that the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, was a peaceful man. I'm sure his solution would have been to suggest that another name be chosen, so it would not seem he (Muhammad) was made an idol of. I don't comprehend how it is an insult.

Default Woman faces 40 lashes for heinous crime.

Quite surprising to see this happpening in a forward thinking Muslim country like Sudan.

Quote:
THE British teacher facing 40 lashes in Sudan for letting her pupils name a teddy bear Mohammed had told friends how she was loving her life in the country.
Gillian Gibbons, a 54-year-old described as “timid and polite,” has been arrested and accused of blasphemy against Islam’s prophet.
The teacher, from Liverpool, let her class of seven-year-olds choose the teddy’s name as part of a project at Unity High School in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.

This is what will happen if the Fundies take control. I think the "Fun" is watching the punishment.

I certainly do not agree with the punishment proposed, and somehow doubt that it will be enforced.

However, she is a visitor to the country. She should be aware of the fact that anything poinitng toward any infraction of religious belief of the country will not be tolerated. It is her responsibility to know the rules.

That is especially true in a government system known for explicit torture and denial of female rights.

Exactly. If you want to travel to a foreign country, you shouldn't expect your current rights to go with you. You are subject to their rules.

Was it Singapore that those American guys were caned for something they did a few years back, and people here got all worked up that it was cruel and unusual? My thoughts were too bad. Bet you want go to that country and commit crime again.

Same with Fundamentalist Christians. No wonder they support capital punishment--they want it there when someone commits heresy.
