As for "surplus populations", is that you Ted Nudgent? That is the same rhetoric used by Nazis along with "Sub-human Mongrels". Great company some people keep.
And my Great Grandfather come here from the Saratov region on the Volga in 1914. Thank God for that!
You want me to support a country clear across the world that will end up hating our guts no matter what we do? Why? Why? Been there done that not doing it again!

I don't think they hate us, this current conflict has more to do with allegiance to either Russia or the EU.

Do Germans, Hungarians, Poles, and Czechs hate our guts? Reagan gets credit because he got Russia to "bring down that wall". Why are Ukrainians any different?

I saw a story yesterday about the billionaires in the Ukraine. There are several and they have, like in the US, considerable clout politically. Some are pro-east, others pro-west, but above all else they are protective of their own interests. They, not Russia, will decide the outcome of this. In any case, it is not our conflict to resolve. This one is on the Euros.

That thought NEVER even occurred to me.

Uh; this ain't WW 2. Russia then had a lot of people, not so many in 2014 and it's pop numbers are falling like a rock. Word is NO country wants to fight a war unless it has enough young people to carry on, older people ain't as likely to want kids and MOST women after about 40 can't.

Agreed- Putin would love to establish a New Russia, that would include Georgia, the Ukraine, and several other components of the old USSR.

He will try to influence politics in those countries, but they are independent republics now. The loss of his boy in Ukraine has to sting.

Putin is pretty aggressive, but I don't think he could invent a " security" excuse to invade Ukraine... at least, not yet.

Did you look into Pooty-poots eyes, and see his soul?

Careful throwing that "madman" label around. That's how the US gets into avoidable wars.
