There will be three NFL Games played in London in 2014, with the prospect of a London NFL Franchise being talked about.

NFL I think wants to get a team over there. I don't think it's a good idea.........too much travel. But if the money is there they will do it. If they did I bet folks would love it though. Football is a great sport to play and to root for. As are many. When you get to the elite level they all are just incredible athletes and I think that is why we all watch them all because when we played as kids we wanted to get there but just couldn't...........but you can keep going by rooting for the guys who do. Better than watching duck dynasty.........LOL

Grounds are now covered in CCTV cameras which monitored by Football Intelligence Units and any trouble results in Football Banning Orders, on top of prison sentences and other measures ranging from withdrawal of passports during International Competitions through to electronic tagging and having to sign on at a police station at match kick off time.

I have very rarely seen any problem in recent years, and away fans are generally whisked in and out via police escorted coaches and kept well away from home supporters. Whilst stadiums are now usually very plush and modern, all seater, very corporate and tickets a lot more expensive. Many stadiums have family areas and there is a large police presence on top of the large number of stewards. It's all a far cry from the game in the 70's and 80's.
I see it on the tube. Hey it appears you live there so maybe I am wrong here recently. I just remember seeing clubs of "hooligans" showing up and fighting before the matches. Not just in Britain but in Europe. Hell in South America it's game on from what I still see they go after the refs if they make a bad call. Not by booing but by going after em. Of course like I said I just see the "highlights". Heck if you came to a KC Chiefs game you might see a beer dumped on some Raider fans head and say man these football fans are crazy too. LOL.

You wouldn't see this kind of behavior at an MLS game either, so what's your point?

There's some violence but it's not wide spread in terms of the English Premiership, and indeed Championship. They have a far greater problem in Europe and South America than the UK.

Certain matches in England require a lot of policing, in London West Ham v Millwall is never going to friendly, neither is Liverpool V Man Utd or Leeds v Liverpool, or indeed numerous local derby games from Newcastle v Sunderland to Mand Utd v Man City to other such local games across the country, and it is local derby games that are hardest to police, as the two sets of fans live in the same area. However given that tens of millions of people attend football matches in the UK, there are only a few thousand arrests ever made, so it's not endemic.

We don't root for a tie though in football. There is a difference. Any soccer coach ever say this...........

""Winning is not a sometime thing; it's an all the time thing. You don't win once in a while; you don't do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing.

There is no room for second place. There is only one place in my game, and that's first place. I have finished second twice in my time at Green Bay, and I don't ever want to finish second again. There is a second place bowl game, but it is a game for losers played by losers. It is and always has been an American zeal to be first in anything we do, and to win, and to win, and to win."
Whoever you're quoting, bub, I guess he's never heard of tanking in the NBA to get a better draft slot.

Or maybe they're not Americans, either.

LOL...........now that is funny. NBA isn't really a sport in my mind.......it's become an exhibition..........until the playoffs. I don't even look at a game until then. Excellent point though!

I stand corrected then. Was it much worse say ten years ago? I know I've seen some nasty stuff in Sout America where they just go bonkers. Of course in the UK they like you say have better security. I just don't see how folks can get so worked up over a soccer game but that is me. I guess others say how the hell can folks get so worked up over a football (US) style too. I love sports so to each his own. You love to watch what you grew up watching and playing one isn't better than the other when it gets down to it.

I don't. However, it seems conservative icon Rush Limbaugh not only cares, but is seeing the rest of the world shrugging off US sports as some sort of loss of American influence. And that's simply not the case.

As for hockey what happens on the ice happens on the ice. When they took fighting out of hockey the sport went in the tank. It's like car racing...........everybody sits around waiting for a wreck..........just like hockey.......everybody sits around and when a fight breaks out the crowd goes wild. Sad but true. That is because that is the only excitement in those sports. Soccer........why do they fight before, after and during in the stands...........well there is nothing else to do.
Yes, too civilized for soccer riots. Not too civilized to riot over other sports.
