History is filled with examples of barriers erected to keep the barbarians, or the locals, or religious zealots, either in, or out, of various countries, but walls and fences have one thing in common – no matter how massive they may be, sooner or later, they all fall down.

The Great Wall of China, the world’s longest man-made structure, covered 4,160 miles, averaging 16.4 feet in height and was built over a period of centuries. Today, it’s one of China’s biggest tourist attractions.

I think fences make real good neighbors. Lets us all know where the line is. And by the way China still has lots of fences.... Just ask the North Koreans that try to excape from there to China.

I know your "fence" question was most likely dealing with only a national level but locally, they have been known to keep peace with those neighbors that you consider bad

I think a fence with a guard tower every 300 meters and an armed mine field in front of it would go a long ways to making good neighbors.

The fence that separated east and west in europe was quite successful.

Hadrians Wall in northern England was too.

Sometimes high fences lead to neighbors building taller ladders

A forked stick works well for knocking the ladders over....

Or of course land mines.

It worked in East Germany. Anything that moved got shot. We could learn a lesson....

Yes, high fences make good neighbors, especially if you are one of the unfortunate ones who end up next door to a neighbor that doesn't respect other peoples property lines!

Double layered fences with a titanium reinforced concrete wall 60 feet high. Between each fence and wall we will on one side place motion sensors wired to .50 cal machine guns, laser guns, mine fields, fire ditches, pit falls 30 feet deep filled with either recordings of Nancy Pelosi or razor sharp sticks. On the other side we can have it patrolled with AIDS infested Dobermans, Rottwielers, and Pit Bulls, armed Humvee's that use DU .50 cal rounds dipped in human excrement to penetrate the thick skulls of the evil ones and of course the all time favorite, high voltage.

We will pay for it by cutting all programs like education, health care and that horrid Socialist Clinton type program, Social Security... after all, to hell with the poor, they should have worked harder anyway, who cares.

Of course if the dollar keeps falling, it may hinder us trying to get into Mexico for those high paying jobs.
