This is too funny.

The outrage, sending kids to a school where they actually learn something. We should be sending all the kids to the failing public schools, that sounds like a much better idea.

The charter schools get the same dollars per student as the public schools, the difference is the charter schools do not bow down to the administrators, teachers unions and politicians.

When government gets out of the way good things happen.

They are not private and are under the same criteria as the public schools.
Best go back and educate yourself on the NYC charter schools.

No accountability ?
Then what is this :

Charter Schools - Portfolio Planning - New York City Department of Education
Welcome to the Charter School Accountability & Support (CSAS) website. We hope this website provides helpful information about our work within the NYC Department of Education, which includes authorizing 69 of the 183 charter schools in New York City, acting as the liaison between the NYC DOE and all existing and future charter schools in NYC, and engaging with the NYC community.

So we'll see what his next moves are.

And he's been called an "Aggressive Progressive".
He certainly did and the people elected him by 45 points.

He's doing exactly what he said he would do.

IMHO the charter schools provide a viable alternative to parents that cannot afford private school.
It will be a damn shame when he dismantles those "elite" NYC High Schools to make them more diversified.

Charter schools in NYC are not selective. Acceptance is typically by lottery because applications exceed space available at most charter schools.

Charter schools typically expect a serious commitment from the parents of students. Meeting that commitment is probably what makes the most difference in outcomes between a charter and public school. Not all charters perform better than public schools.

Every city, in every part of the U.S. has some underperforming charter schools and schools that have been closed due to misappropriation of funds.

You are correct - they knew exactly who/what de Blasio is and they voted for him anyway. 45 points means that they overwhelmingly voted for this man.

Let them reap what they sow. You just can't feel sorry for people that deliberately walk off a cliff, when the cliff is clearly in front of them.

This is becoming my basic premise on all these issues. The people who voted "KNEW" what they were voting for.

Or it's quite possible that the rampant apathy that has gripped America means they really didn't know his platform and just voted for "the party".
I wouldn't be surprised to read that was the case.

Based on DeBlasio's agenda this is what NYC has to look forward to. Horrible schools for all, higher taxes and rampant crime. The future sounds great. Good luck to you in NYC.

Gee public education seemed to work well before those that keep continually saying how it doesn't work decided to run for office and well lookie here !! now it is in fact failing why is that ? Why is that a certain group of people who continually say nothing works than when they finally get the chance to do some bit of good about it do nothing or worse ruin it ! Why is that ? Government works but not when we have nothing but blockheads who are paid for by corporations and special intereest groups

You are absolutely clueless as to how charter schools work.
