Why can't this man go away peacefully. We have a military that is larger than the next 10 countries and this cut is dangerous?
actually
...our military spending is right in line with everyone else
our CURRENT defense budget is only 4.1% of our GNP....china spends 3.9% of its gdp on military.......right in comparison with the rest of the world at 2-6%
france's defense budget is 500 million euro...while their gdp is about 1.4 trillion.....our spending is 670 billion with a gdp of 16+ trillion.....so france actually spends MORE as a percentage of their gdp
defense spending as a % of GDP puts us at #27meaning 26 other countries spend MORE than us on their military as a percent of their gdp
we cut our military personnel nearly in half in the 90's..and it made it more difficult to do their jobs

No it didn't.
Actually, the jobs they got sent to do were stupid...it had nothing to do with the size.

He also needs to understand that many military are on food stamps so it's just a bit ridiculous for him to be criticizing the program.

CHENEY: Absolutely dangerous. You know, I've obviously not been a strong
supporter of Barack Obama, but this really is over the top. It does enormous
long-term damage to our military. They act as though it's like highway spending
and you can turn it on and off.

No, I believe it will push for more and more automation.
Artificial intelligence, drones, street clearing robots, cyber warfare. These things don't need massive full time personnel, they require highly intelligent officers and contractors.
This will push the bounds and work into civilian life.

Our military spending has been escalating since the 1980's, I don't care what other countries do as a percent of GDP, we do not need a military budget of .5 Trillion dollars. I cannot rationalize why we have a military that is greater than the next 10 countries.
“Over Cheney’s four years as secretary of defense, encompassing budgets for fiscal years 1990-93, DoD’s total obligational authority in current dollars declined from $291.3 billion to $269.9 billion. Except for FY 1991, when the TOA budget increased by 1.7 percent, the Cheney budgets showed negative real growth: -2.9 percent in 1990, -9.8 percent in 1992, and -8.1 percent in 1993. During this same period total military personnel declined by 19.4 percent, from 2.202 million in FY 1989 to 1.776 million in FY 1993. The Army took the largest cut, from 770,000 to 572,000–25.8 percent of its strength.”
This guy really takes the cake. He put the 'dick' in Richard.
Clinton should have also refrained in his criticism of Bush Jr. but it wasn't that frequent, I give GW a lot of credit for staying out of current affairs, very classy. Cheney is in the news every week and Rumsfeld is out on the book tour, I would be embarrassed but then I'm not a politician.
Actually we have seen very LITTLE of Chaney these past 6 years. Whereas Clinton is in the news a LOT.
"I would be embarrassed" You are entitled to your opinion, one which I respectfully disagree with.
Cheney is right. Defense cuts are "absolutely dangerous"........ to his portfolio.
In addition to his $34 million Haliburton exit package, he's still got unexercised stock options.
If Haliburton is so bad, why did Clinton award them their FIRST no bid contract?
