A gun would have done nothing but maybe cause more harm. When you are in a crowded area with people panicking, not knowing who was doing what and where they were coming from....how exactly would a gun help. They could be right behind you and stab you. You're gun would be useless.
The attackers with the knives would probably recognize the fact that they are outpowered after hearing the first gunshot, and would either run away or get shot. Pretty simple really.

A crowded place with people panicking is no place to use a gun unless you are trained to take them out with one bullet to the head without hurting the innocent. If you can't do that then your gun is worthless.
This was organized and premeditated, I don't think they had any problem with dying. Being naive is thinking the rest will run.

Police can't even do that, that's why they often fire 50 shots to take down one person. So essentially what you're saying is it's useless to stop the attackers, just go ahead and let them kill everyone because we can't do anything about it.

Baloney. If I have some knife wielding idiot running towards me, and I am allowed to have my gun, I'm going to shoot his ass. Guarantee you that will make the others run. They are cowards. Everything they do is cowardly. There is absolutely nothing brave about what they do.
