Yes, we have a right to own property. However, property rights in every type of property are restricted in some way. In terms business ownership and this these types of anti-discrimination laws, the Supreme Court has already decided the issue (and did so unanimously).
Can you please give me some examples of such restrictions?
I'm starting to agree w/ this. If anyone is allowed to discriminate for any reason, we might go back to whites only lunch counters in some regions. If no one is, then a legal NV brothel is required to serve a LBGT customer. In effect we have a reductio ad absurdum at both ends of the spectrum, so we need a pragmatic solution somewhere in the middle.
Just don't do it in such a way that whose ox is gored depends on what their political alignment is. If it is done that way, and I think that is our direction, it's going to be a never-ending fight.
For the record, while I obviously don't support whites-only lunch counters or whatever, I am skeptical that such lunch counters would be particularly financially successful, especially in/over the long-run.
Can you please give me some examples of such restrictions?
Related to property: zoning laws, building codes, maintenance ordinances, etc, etc, etc.
Related to businesses: licensing requirements, safety codes, regulatory compliance, etc, etc, etc.
Other examples: I own the bottle of Vicodin in my medicine cabinet, but I'm forbidden from selling it or giving it away. I own the battery that powers this laptop, but I'm forbidden from disposing of it in any other manner than recycling it. I own my kidneys and while I can give one away, I can't sell it.
