Half of detroit is apparently quite nice. It's the other half that is bad. Also it's not just Detroit in Michigan that is bankrupt. It's a lot of places in Michigan that are run by Republicans that have gone by bankrupt or near bankrupt because of Republican policies.

Squatting happens everywhere in the world and dates back centuries.

The largest squat in U.S. history occurred in NYC, in the early 2000's. Squatters took over 11 apartment buildings. The city gave the buildings to them.

Parts of Florida have always been highly vulnerable to squatters because snow birds fly north when the weather gets hot and humid.

Abandoned bank-owned properties ( not necessarily dumps) are also vulnerable because only the owner ( the bank) can press charges.

Squatting is huge in Europe and squatters have rights, in some nations.

Jeez Bent, you suddenly have great interest in the Detroit forums. I actually agree with this part of your post.

Squatting: it's not as simple as some people want to make it.

Squatters Are Taking Over Detroit's 100,000 Vacant Homes - Business Insider
Excerpt: Some residents are grateful the homes are being kept from gross disrepair and stripped of materials, while others like Verina Hunter just want to live in peace.

If no taxes are being collected anyway, why not allow people to live there as long as they behave themselves and don't destroy the place?

The Moorish Nation people pull this crap in every state. They claim an empty house as their sovereign property, then someone calls the police and they get to assert their sovereignty over their prison cell.
