Senate reaches bipartisan deal on unemployment benefits extension

Senate negotiators struck a bipartisan deal Thursday that would renew federal unemployment benefits for the long-term jobless, allowing for retroactive payments to go to more than 2 million Americans whose benefits expired in late December.

...
With 55 members of the Democratic caucus supporting an extension of unemployment benefits, the five Republican supporters of the legislation provide just enough votes to clear the 60-vote hurdle needed to pass the legislation.

“It has now been 75 days since UI expired, and it needs to be renewed. We’re not at the finish line yet, but this is a bipartisan breakthrough,” Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.), the lead sponsor of the legislation, said in a statement.

I understand many people are not bring in any money - but this is the wrong way to address the problem. In fact - it's not addressing the problem. And then this extension will end in May, nothing will have changed and we will go through this again.

This is so stupid.

It may seem heartless, but we need to end the extensions so that it forces people to address the problem with the goal of solving the problem.

If you read the article does anybody really think it will be paid for with what they are proposing? I do not think the house will let this pass, but of course it is a election year so our spineless so called leaders could give it the green light. Just look at the Speaker Boner who is too chicken s*** to even comment one way or the other.
In a way I see their line of thinking because we know that Obamacare is going to slow retail spending so thus extending UE beni's is a way to cover some of the loss. Even our dopey leaders know the economy needs more velocity of money. But so far their schemes do not seem to be working.

Sure we can.

Afghanistan is an example of something that we can't do forever.

I like how they plan on funding it....

Employers can contribute LESS to their pension plans and then declare higher profits because of that and then pay more taxes.
ROFLMAO if they think that is going to happen.
