I think Marshal's Zhukov, Koniev and Rokkassovsky would have prevented the USSR from being torn to bits. They had a better than 2-1 edge in manpower, internal lines of communication and supply more field artillary, tanks (T-34s considered a cut above America's M-4 Sherman) US forces would have just loved having to deal with Katusha rocket salvos and the Stumovik (the flying tank) and the Mig 9 and IL-4 in skilled hands were pretty good since they bested the German Luftwaffe. A fight betten the USA and USSR at the end of WW2 without atomic bombs would have been glorious.

The Finlandization ended when the Soviet Union fell apart. Finnish-Soviet relations are not, well, how could you say it... very warm. The economic relations are good, but the political relations have been quite cool the last 4-5 years or so.

Anyway, the buttlicking ended when the USSR fell.

Please remember that Germany ALMOST took down Russia and that was going on while stupid Hitler was also fighting in Africa AND trying to take out the UK. Too; Russia was badly hurt in 1945 with losing millions of its people AND a lot of damage. The US suffered NO damage during WW2 except for Pearl Harbor.

Word was that Poland; hurt as bad as it was at the end of WW 2, would've helped out against Russia and even the Ukraine would've seen a real chance to kick Stalin in the gut with the US smashing up Moscow and so on even more. Russia couldn't have hit back at OUR factories in the US except by luck and sneaking agents in.

Even IF Japan tried to join Russia in the middle of 1945, it wouldn't made a difference IMHO since we had Japan by the throat then, they were quite helpless even with kamakazes against the US.

It was USSR that time, no Russia. And Poland and Ukraine helping USA in smashing Moscow is completely wrong and weird imagination. Poland couldn't help themselves and what was Ukraine that time??? Why would USA smash Moscow in 1945 when it was Soviets who occupied half of Berlin. instead of smashing Moscow, US was unable to even free Berlin from Soviets.

Please remember we were STILL fighting Japan after Hitlers boys gave up. Too; word was our GI's were almost at Berlin but were ordered to stop by OUR generals. IMHO IF the US really wanted Russia's butt in 1945; we could've taken the Commies down. Too; many of Poland's fighters we already fighting with the US and England and could've help put a big hurt on Stalin's boys.

The Estonians are worried about the Russians in Estonia.... what's the big deal?

As far as NATO.. EVERY country should back out of that. We don't need a 'world police force'. The Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian people should be in an uproar towards their governments for entering them into that contract. Take some advice from Finland on neutrality.

NO2NATO!

I wonder what's gonna happen when Russia becomes 'concerned' over the treatment of Russians in Brighton Beach?

Finland isn't neutral. We are part of the EU and Eurozone, so far from neutral. We are not militarily allied. And believe me, during this Ukraine crisis there has been a lot of debate if we should join NATO.

I think we should. Tomorrow.

The truth is, that Finland was only having cordial relation with the USSR because it was economically lucrative and otherwise Soviet paratroopers would have been in Helsinki the next morning. The relations with Russia were good only as long as the Russians wanted to. Three violations of airspace in one week, dodgy customs fees and the ban on Finnish dairy products is everything but "good, neutral relations". Nobody should take any advice from Finland, especially when we aren't neutral.
