Let's see the government is now into collection money on drugs, moonshine, number games and "protection" scams. All they need to do is add in prostitution and human marketing and they will have completely replaced the mob.
You can brew your own alcohol, just like I would suppose you will be able to grow your own cannabis once it is federally legal to do so. This won't happen until the majority of states legalize it, causing those in the FED to all but make it legal. State by state I expect it to take on soon. The slower states (ones with greater obesity etc.) will be dead last to legalize.

In B.C. where pot has been legal they are now making it regulated and that will drive up price, plus make new rules and licensing for growing your own hard to do unless you are in the business. Legalizing it isn't going to make it easy to grow, probably harder to grow your own.
In B.C. (where MM use has) been legal they are now making (acquiring it far more) regulated...

Actually being legal would.
Substituting one set of onerous or counterproductive regulations for another is NOT legality.
The issue is that it's really hard to tax something that just about anyone can grow on their own
and it's really hard to tax much when the agricultural market value is lower than cabbage.
Both regulation and taxation CAN be done... but never to the degree the anti's will want.

Yup, I recall listening to an NPR story on the tax revenue collected in Colorado's first legal month, and the commentator said something to the effect of "they will only raise 7 million for new schools this year, that won't build a lot of schools". I was sick at that comment. Only 7 million? That's better than the millions spent on locking up new inmates for pot possession.

It's not at all easy to grow a mature plant. Especially a high quality flower.
That argument is tired, IMO. I think it also takes 6-months to a year for a plant to mature.

But it can be done (the point) which makes domestic regulation incredibly impractical.
And if done it's still far more a USDA monitoring thing than a DOJ prosecution thing.

And when completed it has an ag market value akin to about any other crop or produce.
On the high side... that's in the $5 per POUND range...
not the $350 per OUNCE range that the current ILLEGAL market has set.

False, cannabis is a weed, it's not very hard to grow at all. Additionally, autos will completely mature in just 2 months. That's why hemp is so important. Trees only contain around 25% cellulose it takes a lot of energy turning trees in to paper. Hemp on the other hand (the male plant that does not bud) is 85% cellulose and can grow much much faster than a tree.
Regular cannabis plants take 11-12 weeks to grow, not 6-12 months.
When it comes down to it, jute does better than hemp for fiber content. Bamboo is also another alternative. It also grows as a weed about anywhere and can grow at rates of 24" a day.

Problem with that is Bamboo and Jute are not native to America, cannabis is, thus it is preferred. Exotic plants can become invasive and change plant communities and ultimately ecosystems.
So the answer isn't to make the pens illegal, but the pot? Here's some more "unintended consequences", should we make all these products illegal?
SNIP
So, ah no, that wasn't the point, you missed it.
The point isn't banning the pens. That wasn't even suggested.
The point was that there are unintended consequences for almost everything including the legalization of marijuana (or cannabis for the righteous). Personally, I could care what anyone smokes, drinks, eats or takes orally or anally. To each their own.
What I do take issue with is the idea that there are no harmful effects from using marijuana as if it is as safe as breathing the air in the Alps. It is not. There are harmful effects but perhaps the brains become affected of those using marijuana that they can't admit to it.
If we are going to create laws restricting the use of vapor cigarettes, then smoking marijuana should be restricted in the same manner. Believe it or not, many people don't like the smell of burning marijuana and when it comes to using vapor pens, that isn't the same and brings into play all kinds of safety issues by itself. Regardless, smoke, vape, chew, swallow, grind, bake all you want. Like anything else, make a nuance and it will attract the regulators, antis and all that so much more. You reap what you sow.
